28 anniversary

On September 16th 1993 (at 8 pm!) I arrived in Sevilla from Salamanca with two cats in tow, and I’ve been living here ever since. Today will be quite a different celebration from last year’s as I will be celebrating my 28th Sevilla anniversary this evening with a Sevilla Tapas Tour, which somehow feels appropriate. I mean, whodda thought 28 years ago that I would end up becoming Queen of Tapas? Had a lovely pre-anniversary lunch with Peter yesterday at a (fabulous!) newly opened restaurant, Plato Jondo, but today I am saving myself. And it will be nice to go out in the evening, which is still something I don’t usually do. So here is to 28 years and hopefully many more! 🥂

A few scenes from yesterday’s Sevilla Sherry Tasting… my first this year and it was so much fun. My new venue for this is the fabulous Casa Morales, and I couldn’t be happier. Great location with excellent wines and tapas. Salud! 🥂

happy monday

Last night I fell asleep to the sound of rain falling on the patio roof, something I’d not experienced for several months, and thought about how nice it is to listen to the rain when you’re all dry and cosy inside, especially when all tucked up in bed with a couple of cats. Then I thought about the wildfires that had been raging in the Málaga mountains since last Wednesday and hoped that these couple of rainy days would help put them out.

Woke up this morning to the wonderful news that the fires were now under control and sent the above tweet from bed… a few minutes later it dawned on me that IT’S NOT MONDAY, IT’S TUESDAY. Oops. So I corrected myself in a follow up tweet but not before getting a few “you need coffee!” type of replies. Which was true of course, but it’s equally true that I often don’t know what day it is any more. Whatever! It’s a happy day. And I’m extra happy because I am doing my first sherry tasting of the year this afternoon. So Happy Tuesday everyone!  🙂

lima party

I was so pleased when chef Danny Cárdenes sent me a message inviting me to the opening party – or reopening party – following the expansion of his lovely Lima Street Food. This is a little sister to Danny’s fabulous Raices, but now she is not so little. Over the summer they expanded into a next door location and have now tripled the indoor seating (previously just 15) with another dining room that opens onto a side street.

Anyhow, got there early to discover that the many of the usual suspects (local “influencers”) were already there having beers out on the patio. So we got a couple of beers and waited to be invited inside for the actual party. About an hour later we were still waiting, which wasn’t a problem, these things sometimes take awhile to get going. The problem (for me) was that during that hour the number of guests had more than doubled and there was no way I was going to go inside with such a large group of people, unmasked because eating and drinking, and so we headed home, stopping off for a couple of tapitas at a place I hadn’t been to for a few years, La Monumental. It still ended up quite a nice evening, just not the one I’d been expecting. Also, got 8500 steps in (!!) and was in bed by midnight.

tania birthday

Spent a fab afternoon yesterday celebrating my friend Tania‘s birthday. We started off at Casa Moreno for a quick cold beer (and also to introduce Tania to one of my favourite places) then went to Casa Morales for a proper birthday lunch. Much wine and many tapas later we made our way to Bodeguita Romero for La Penúltima and instead of birthday cake Tania opted for a hot toasted pringá (that’s my girl!). Then closer to home we stopped at Bodega La Hermandad (our new “local” we both love it) for another penúltima, this time lovely chilled cava. Had a great time.
