rain at last

Other than a brief respite mañana (so I can hopefully get some laundry done) it looks like it’s going to be non-stop RAIN for the next ten days. At least, we hope so. It’s been such a dry winter that there is a serious threat of drought this summer in Andalucía. So it’s time to stay cosy and dry inside, do some cooking, work on the website, read and do photo editing, etc and basically breathe a sigh of relief. The rain is finally here.

sun's back

After close to two weeks of constant RAIN the sun is back and so is our beautiful blue sky. The good news is that during this time our reservoirs have gone from less than 30% to more than 50% full, which is wonderful. I’ve only gone through one serious drought in Sevilla, with water shortages and restrictions, and now it looks like we are going to be spared that this summer.  🙏🏻

weekend weather

So yeah, it’s getting HOT. Not as hot as it somtimes gets here during the summer, but we’re just barely into July. And normally you can add a few degrees to the “official high temperature”, especially around 5 PM in the centre of Sevilla. The good news is that it’s happening at the weekend when we have the cheaper electricity rates!  The bad news is my tap water is already smelling strongly of chlorine, which also doesn’t usually happen until some time in August. Guess we didn’t get enough rain this spring. Welcome to Summer 2021.

heats back

The heat is back, creeping back up to 40º, and so we are now always looking for shady streets when out and about. In fact, there’s a new app out there called Shadowmap that tells you when and where streets in Sevilla (or anywhere else in the world) are more likely to be shady. I usually tend to just look up the street, but I suppose it could be handy if you don’t know a place and you are planning a walking route. Honestly, there’s an app for everything these days.
