Every August Sevilla turns into a ghost town.
I kind of like it. But I think I’d like it even better if I had air-conditioning.

Canberra’s a ghost town in December and January – everyone who can vanishes to the coast, or goes back to their home town… I quite like it when I’m here and the crowds have gone.

Is Spain like England, then, where they don’t think air conditioning is worth it for the number of days a year it would be used?

Well, of course all newer buildings are built with central heating and air conditioning, but old buildings in the centre like mine need to have individual units installed and, frankly, we just can’t afford it.
Also, the landlord is very fussy about where we could put the motor (it can’t be mounted on the outside of the building) so that would be another problem.
Yeah, there is something very pleasant and peaceful about seeing the streets so empty. Lots of shops and bars close down for the entire month which also adds to the ‘ghost town’ look.

Weirdly the tunas have returned – fuck knows why, especially in this heat.

Oh, the mental pictures are quite stunning. Who’d have thought they could ride horses?
But semi-seriously – would these tunas be the ones that I came to know and like in Ecuador? Quite pleasant, they were.
