Maybe I have a hairball? 😦

I do hope it’s only a hairball, Az!
Get better very soon.

OMG – this is still going on? I hope you get some answers this time!
Speaking of gas etc., my new pills are giving me some severe GI issues similar to yours. I almost wanted to keel over last night, so I can sympathize!
Get well soon!

Hi, everyone, here’s an update on Az. They decided to keep her overnight in “Observation”. Not sure if they will release her today, but I’m going to see her this morning and will leave an update in the comments if it looks like she’ll be staying in longer.
They gave her a “calmante” last night, so at least she slept a little.
Ciao,
Pipocas

A quick update from Sevilla:
Az is going into surgery tonight, so she might be in the hospital for a few more days. I will post an update tomorrow in the comments if she can’t do it herself.

Quick update on the situation. The surgery has been postponed until this morning. Az has a blockage in the colon, and it’s that and the buildup of gas behind it that have been causing the pain. Will let you know more when I know more.

The surgery was performed this morning and went well, apparently. The blockage was caused by some sort of growth or tumour (though they don’t know exactly what at the moment), and part of the colon was removed. I’ll be seeing her this evening, and everyone’s best wishes will be passed on, which I’m sure will give her a boost.

I think I’m going to start calling her “semi-colon”, heh.
(I’m going to visit her in the morning and will let you know how that turns out before any of you try that… I’m down with the post-op lingo.)

Just back from evening visiting. Az is awake and looking as well as can be expected. She’s still not allowed to eat or drink anything though, and she’s hooked up to a whole bunch of tubes. She’ll be moving from post op as soon as they have a room available. She also says thanks for all the good wishes.

Hola from Pipocas’s crackberry! Thanks for all the good wishes, I miss you guys too. And my cats. Semi-colon indeed! Still hurts like a bugger, but mostly I’d just love a glass of cold water. Hasta pronto, I hope!

Oh, and a million thanks to Pipocas for dragging me to the hospital because I was in no state to decide anything and she just took charge. Might not still be here if not for her. 🙂

Glad you’re back with us, hon. Which means I can give you a *glare* for scaring us like that (medical dramas are *my* job, remember??). Are they at least letting you suck on ice cubes or something to stop your mouth drying out? If you need any help interpreting blood tests etc. just ask.

Just back from visiting the hospital. Az has been moved to the general ward (a two-bed room) and is sitting up in bed looking much better. She still can’t drink anything (though she is allowed to “swill”). If all goes according to plan the tubes will be coming out tomorrow. Thanks again for all the kind thoughts and good wishes.

Hi there. I saw Az this morning and she was somewhat miserable, although we managed to pass the time making fun of the hospital staff (I especially like the operating surgeon, whom we refer to as Dr. Dirk because of his 70’s haircut). I was thrown out for a few minutes while she received a sponge bath, and she smelled all pretty afterwards.
Anyhoo, we have been texting all day and she just informed me that her nose-tube was just removed and they let her sit in a chair for a few hours.
We don’t have a lot of information yet about how long she will stay, but I suspect it will be at least a few more days. I’ll pop in on her tomorrow and let her run wild with the Blackberry while I scope out the orderlies. I’ve almost infiltrated their organization; soon I will have all the medical tubing I want. It will be mine… all mine…. (drools with anticipation).

She’s much happier now the tube has gone. And she may be able to take liquids tomorrow. It will probably be monday before she’s home, but we’ll keep you updated.

Hi again. I am definitely a LOT happier since they took that fucking awful tube out of my throat.
It’s fun being able to read your comments on Pipoca’s blackberry – bugger to write on it though. Once I get mobile I’ll start pestering my doctor pals here (students and ex-students) to let me use their computers.
Dying to get my hair washed. May even get a pedicure – what the heck.
But my big project for the day will be to walk over to my balcony (couldn’t quite manage walking yesterday).
Every day I’m feeling a little bit better. 🙂

That’s really good to hear!
Take care, and do as you’re told.
From my various stays in hospital, I know what you mean (even from a male perspective) about the hairwash etc. Getting into a shower was like heaven.
In fact if I knew I were going into hospital for more than a day or two, I’d take the clippers to my head – bit easier as a bloke though.

Welcome back to the land of broth and thin soups, az! Subsequently bread will be added, as well as over cooked veggies in the broth. 🙂
Post op eating is always an experince. You’re hungry and longing for a steak, they give you some rather tasteless soup – and still you just feel like everything wanna leave your body as soon as it’s in there…

Having had my own experience with surgery, tubes, slow recovery, etc., etc., I deeply sympathize with what you’ve been enduring, Az. I’m VERY happy to know you are mending well and will soon be returning home. No matter how competent, kind and attentive the hospital staff, long stays in hospital suck (no offense intended, nursemyra).

The broth is apparently “caldo de agua” and doesn’t score highly. The vegetable and fruit purees, on the other hand, are quite good. She’s had a shower, and we took a short walk down the corridor last night, and again this morning.
Homecoming is still scheduled for Monday.

Well, it’s been one helluva week but it looks like I’ll be able to go home tomorrow – won’t know for sure until the doctor sees me in the morning.
I can manage all the basic stuff on my own now, like getting showered and dressed, but I have to rest up a bit after every small exertion. Plus my belly still hurts like heck. So I think it’ll be a while before I’m fully recovered.
And of course I’m still waiting to hear if the tumour was benign or malignant. The doctor said he was able to remove all the damaged tissue but I’d have to go for radiotherapy if it was cancer, which is a pretty scary thought.
Anyhow, one step at a time. First I just want to get HOME and snibble my boys again. Oh, and also get back online…
Hasta mañana! (I hope)

Hoping like mad that it doesn’t come to it, but radiotherapy ain’t so bad – nothing at all to be scared of (and I’m a pretty big wuss). I’m still here to tell the tale after all. You knows where I is if you need any info. Get Nog to explain to you who the Ready Brek kid was, if you don’t know already – I did a great impression.

I remember the hair thing well; when I was in the hospital for my broken ankle years ago, the first thing I did when I got out was go to get my hair *cut*!! Didn’t know at the time, that to get more than a sponge *shampoo* was to get on the hair care list — this they tell me the morning before I was to go home!
Best to you and the boyz…
