Juan Manuel & Manolo with wild chanterelles
This lunch treat week has been a lot of fun. Yesterday Pipocas took me out to Becerríta – it was my first time there and I loved it. Then today, after getting my ‘hospital haircut’, Nog and I went over to Bodeguita Romero to give Pedro Romero the menu translation I did for him at his request (he’d asked me last week when Sara & Steve had taken Nog & me out for lunch there). And so we had a small snack there – on the house – and then Nog suggested that he take me out for a ‘last fritura’ (at least until November) at Modesto.
Well, I hadn’t been to Modesto since the prognosis lunch at the end of June so everyone there made a big fuss about seeing me again. And also about me going into hospital on Monday. Nog and I had the usual fritura and I was captivated by a huge platter of wild mushrooms on the bar (see photo above), so I asked Juan Manuel what they were and how they were prepared … his description sounded so scrumptious that I really wanted to try them. What the hell. And it turned out that we got quite a nice discount on the price (I’m feeling very spoiled these days). Here they are … wild chanterelles sautéed in garlic and olive oil with thinly sliced chocos (cuttlefish/squid).
At both the Bodeguita and Modesto I was hugged and kissed by the waiters and was given all their best wishes, and was also told not to worry because we’d all see each other again soon … it was really nice. It’s also just one of the many reasons why Sevilla feels like home to me.

We’re going to Crete next June. I’ll ride a boat over and take you out to lunch. Or you can take me out to lunch. Looks like you have really good taste in restaraunts.

Scrummy-looking dish… (I meant the mushroom one, though you are also a scrummy-looking dish, yourself).

All this really good food is making me hungry. Hurry up and play your turn at Scrabble, so we can finish this game.

Seville sounds as though it has a number of really nice residents as well as a number of really nice restaurants. 🙂

A boat from Crete, eh? Hey, nice to meet someone just as bad at geography as me.
Why thank you, Anneke, but I think I’m looking a bit dorky with this really short haircut (though Nog says I look cute). Ah well, it will have grown out a bit by the time I get out of hospital.
Done, Silverstar.
That’s the thing, truce. Most of the time going out for tapas is a bit like going out and being at home, if you know what I mean. Even though I can’t afford to eat out anymore, Nog still takes me out for a weekly tapa treat and friends invite me out for lunches, so I’m not suffering too badly … though after this special ‘lunch week’ I am not getting on the scales again until after I get home from hospital.

can we be the judge of the haircut please?

What? Photo evidence? Are you mad?
For the record, Nog’s comment was made just after I came out of the hairdresser’s and the hair was all sleek and freshly blow-dried.
This morning when I got out of bed it looked like it was trying to escape.
But it’ll be a lot more comfortable when I’m stuck in bed and an alice band should keep it more or less under control.
