… at least, I hope so.
I got a phone call from my friend/student Manolo yesterday saying he was going to be away on holiday all of August and he offered me the use of his apartment in Málaga. He has quite a nice place there right on the beach and near the centre of town. And so I got all excited because it really would be nice to get away for a few days and, other than train fare, this would be a “free holiday” as it won’t cost any more to stay there than here. So if I can arrange for someone to feed & water the boys I think I’m going to take Manolo up on his offer. Nog will come with me and I’ve also extended an invitation to my friend Lizzie in Bristol as there is plenty of room for three at the apartment and there are cheap direct flights Bristol-Málaga. Still waiting to hear back from her, but it would be wonderful if she could make it.
Quite looking forward to walks on the beach and dipping my toes in the Mediterranean …
I took a stroll around the old city when I was over in April – some lovely little nooks and crannies. The oldest bar in Malaga isn’t far from the train station too. My old friend took me to a fabulous restaurant called El Jardin and the food was excellent. Fabulous setting too.

I’ve only been to Málaga twice before, and only for a few hours each time. The first visit was for a business meeting about five years ago and, although we had a nice lunch on the beach, I was left with the impression that Málaga was an ugly tourist trap.
The second visit was last October and that time I got to visit the old city centre. And it’s beautiful! I can’t wait to go back with more time to wander around and discover more of those little nooks & crannies. Will also check out El Jardín, though we will probably just have tapa snacks out and do proper meal cooking “at home”. I suspect the markets there will have some very nice fish available.
Hmmm, I hope Manolo has internet at his place…

Excellent! An ocean beach is the best healer, body and soul that there is! Don’t forget the sun screen and your camera!

Today I bought some spray-on 30 SPF sunblock. Nog actually needs it for his noggin just for walking around Sevilla, but even though I won’t be out sunbathing (and will probably be wearing some sort of bedouinish ensemble) I’ll put it on when we go to the beach.
Just checked train fares and the normal fare has really gone down since they put in the fast train Sevilla-Málaga. We can get tickets on the normal train for 38 euros return, which is pretty reasonable. And Susan has just told me in an email that she is sending me a “vacation donation” to help out with August and also a little something for Málaga. The only caveat is that I MUST go back to this place where we had lunch last October (photos 31-33).
*sigh* Honestly, the things I have to do …

Well darn. Just found out that my next door neighbour is going to Italy for her sister’s wedding on August 12th and won’t be back until September 1st. And she is the only cat sitter I’ve been able to find. So Nog and I are now planning to go to Málaga 2-9 August. A whole week! Well, if I can stand being away from the boys for that long.
And wouldn’t you know it but that’s the one week Lizzie can’t come because she is also going to be in Italy. Ah well. She’ll just have to come to Seville instead. 🙂
“az, you are so fortunate in your friends!”
Oh, and don’t I know it, hmh. You guys are simply the best!
