It was love at first sight. Or at first sound. Two nights ago Nog & I decided to stick close to home and try out the Mexican restaurant around the corner from our building. As soon as we sat down on the terrace I heard this little mieow-mieow-mieowing that sounded to me like a lost and very hungry kitten. Eventually the little guy came out from under the car he had been hiding under and started checking out what people on the restaurant terrace were eating. So of course I had to give him some of our enchiladas, and later the waiter also gave him some scraps from the kitchen. I immediately named him Caramel…
Then yesterday morning I saw him again when we left the apartment and I went into the supermarket across the street to get him some cat food. It was then that I noticed he has one blue and one amber eye and I fell in love with him even more. I swear, if this had happened in Sevilla that cat would have been scooped up, brought home, given a good bath and would now be living the life of Reilly. But I really can’t see how I’d be able to bring him home on the train. I’m not sure if they allow pets.
I know almost a year ago I said that although I was cautiously optimistic about getting healthy again, I still wasn’t about to go out and get a kitten. But this one has sort of happened to me and now I’m not sure what to do.
Cute, isn’t he?

I’m afraid you’re stuck with this one, if it were my vote. You just have to live a minimum of a cat lifetime now, in good health and general condition. You been had.

That cat looks like he knows what to do on the beach – would fit nicely with Sunny.
Would the train not allow him in a pet carrier?

oh my goodness, he is adorable. Looks like Fate has plans for you… I’d suggest calling the train company. I’m sure they must allow pets in carriers – but maybe only in the baggage car (which would be a small price for Caramel to pay for his new life of Reilly!)

Two different color eyes. Interesting and either color goes well with the coat and confirmation.

*Very* cute. Those eyes are quite striking!
I can’t wait to learn what you do. How long a train ride is it?

It’s a two and a half hour train ride. So about four hours altogether counting taxi rides and getting to the station a bit early.
I may actually have “competition” as yesterday when I was taking pics of Caramel a woman came by with food for him too. We started talking and I said how I would like to take him home but I live in Sevilla, and she said she already had eight ( ! ) cats and her husband would kill her if she brought another one home. But I got the feeling she was tempted. Well, I’ll go down a bit later and see if he’s still there.
Another issue is that it might be difficult/impossible to catch him as he is very skittish and won’t come anywhere near us Big Folk – I had to use the zoom to get that photo. So he’d have to be coaxed into a cat cage with food (memories of trapping Azar in the street – what a stressful experience that was!) and I’m not sure if it would even work.
“I can’t wait to learn what you do.”
Yeah, me too …

I’m pretty sure pets are allowed on trains (and public transportation) as long as they’re in a pet carrier. Call Renfe and ask, it’s that easy! 🙂 I vote for taking Caramel with you, cats happen just like that!

Awww!
Of course you need to be owned by him! There can’t be anything such as too many kitties (well, sort of anyway…)
Caramel is very alike the kitties I saw in China.

I once took a cat on a train from Norfolk to Aberdeen.
Caramel’s eyes remind me of a boy I was at school with who had exactly the same eyes.

Well wouldn’t you know it. Went down to “his car” three times yesterday and didn’t see him at all. Or anywhere up and down the street. So it looks like it ain’t gonna happen as I would have to get a cat carrier today and I’m still not even sure if I’d be able to catch him … or if I’ll ever see him again.
Maybe the other woman came and got him?
Anyhow, will have another look for him when I go out later on.

Too bad you weren’t in Sevilla. He sure is a cutie. But I’m sure when it’s time for another kitty to come into your life, there will be no question about it.

What an amazing face. Sorry you couldn’t find him to bring him home with you. I’m sure there are cats in Sevilla that need you. I can’t even imagine what kind of out of joint noses you would have to deal with if you came home after being Away and brought Another Damned Kitten into the house.

Oh, I did think about that too, hmh. Returning after the longest time away ever … and with another cat!
As it is I won’t be able to coax Azar out for a snibble for at least a couple of hours – he’ll be sulking under the bed trying to make me feel bad. Sunny will be fine as soon as he hears someone opening a tin of sardines…
Anyhow, didn’t spot Caramel again today. I just hope the other cat woman took him in.
What was interesting about all this was that I was totally ready to take in a new kitten … I think it says a lot for actually believing I have a future out there. Now if I could just stop my face from going numb then I might actually feel almost normal…

Last day in Málaga yesterday and Nog & I were passing by “Caramel’s car” – no sight of him. Then we saw our waiter from the other night at the Mexican restaurant and asked if he’d seen Caramel since. He said he saw him again on Friday and that it seemed people were putting out food and water for him. He also said that after we’d left that night some other people eating there got enchanted by Caramel and his eyes and tried to catch him to take him home. No luck.
Ah well. It was a nice idea while it lasted.
