Well, I’ve never done anything like this before and I’m not actually looking for a “date” as such, but the other day my yoga buddy Flor convinced me to check out a “singles connecting” place she is a member of, saying that she and a friend of hers have met some interesting people there. And so, since I am in the process of taking my life back and expanding my horizons, I decided to give it a go. It feels a bit odd because, all things considered, I can’t honestly say I’m looking for anything “long term”, so I’ve checked the option that says I’m looking for friends. In fact, I doubt I could do this if I were actually looking for a long-term relationship – it would feel like too much pressure or something. This way it’s simply another way of meeting some new and interesting people, though of course I’m keeping an open mind. Because you never know….

good idea, you could meet all sorts of interesting people. Plus (if my experience is anything to go by) a few freaks which will make for some interesting blog-posts, if nothing else!!

That’s what it’s all about. I recently went on a date, actually – my first since my early 20s. Intimidating, yes. Worth it for my self esteem, yes. It didn’t turn into anything at all, but it was definitely a big step. I hope you meet some interesting people, Az.

Definitely blog-fodder! I might do the same, if I ever clean up my apartment to the point I want to take someone there. Someone I don’t want to terrify, I mean.

I think it’s really good that you are trying this. If you are going through any kind of life change, it helps to connect to people. It doesn’t matter whether the connection is one of friendship, lust or love. Just meeting new people is always a good thing. I say just have fun and see what happens!

OMG! I’ve just done exactly the same az! Signed up with a couple of sites this week. Now comes the scary part – actually taking it far enough to maybe meet a real person….we can compare notes – or blog posts!

As for “blog fodder” … well, I have yet to meet anyone who might provide some amusement for you all. So far the guys who have contacted me seem either nice enough or not very interesting, and I don’t bother having anything to do with the not interesting ones. And the one person I contacted myself (so bold of me!) has been keeping up a very pleasant correspondence.
Thanks for all the support everyone! It’s kind of unchartered waters for me. Wasn’t even sure if I should do it. But I mostly want to have fun with it, you know? Some pleasant diversion that fits into my natural pleasure in meeting new people.
