Went out for lunch at Eslava today with a friend of mine (who shall remain anonymous) and found out that another Sevilla food blogger has been going around spreading nasty – and totally untrue! – rumours about me.
Looks like I have arrived!ย ๐
But I am vindicated not only because what he’s saying is false. I have a friend here who had the same problems with him a while back (stealing photos, sending rude private FB messages) and so he can say what he likes. In fact, I actually hope he says these things to people who know me well so that it all blows up in his face.
Karma, baby!
Great article sweetie! Love your attitude! You’re totally right, let him talk!
If I’d meet someone new, especially in business, who would be spreading rumours about another person (company), I would definitely never continue with him. It says more about him than about you!
Love,
Caroline

that guy just needs to be ignored.

I would refer this to a lawyer because it is a serious criminal offence;
In Spain, the crime of calumny (Article 205 of the Penal Code) consists of offending one’s reputation knowing the falsity of the offense, or with a reckless contempt for truth. Penalties for cases with publicity are imprisonment from six months to two years or a fine of 12 to 24 months-fine, and for other cases only a fine of 6 to 12 months-fine (Article 206). Additionally, the crime of injury (Article 208 of the Penal Code) consists of hurting someone’s dignity, depreciating his reputation or injuring his self-esteem, and is only applicable if the offense, by its nature, effects and circumstances, is considered by the general public as strong. Injury has a penalty of fine from 3 to 7 months-fine, or from 6 to 14 months-fine when it’s strong and with publicity. According to Article 216, an additional penalty to calumny or injury may be imposed by the judge, determining the publication of the judicial decision (in a newspaper) at the expenses of the defamer.

Yikes! It was suggested elsewhere that I get an entourage and think of some crazy riders, now that I am clearly famous enough to be publicly defamed. ๐
Your suggestion is decidedly less fun, Ian, but I shall take it under advisement.

Cripes, sorry to hear that. Assuming he’s Spanish. Would you like to take it up with him in person?

Yep, Spanish. And no, don’t want anything more to do with the guy. He was extremely rude to me last time I tried to explain why finding MY photos with the watermark cut off on HIS Facebook account was unacceptable. I mean, he was really rude.
I just wonder why he is choosing to spread malicious lies about me to people we both know in the biz. I’ve had no contact with him for more than a year yet this gossip is very recent, according to my friend.
And if he does happen to see this post – and can understand English – then perhaps he’ll get the message that he should knock it off before he shoots himself in the foot. Especially with his foot being in his mouth and all… could get messy.

Oh, I’d totally just rely on karma to bite him – it will, sooner or later. In the meantime, rise above it just like you are doing and carry on enjoying Seville Springtime!

If only I could be there and be part of your entourage.
Variou traditional prayers seek preservation from all sorts of follies. I think “Dear [insert Deity here], do not let Envy ever make me an asshole” would be a good interpolation.

Its a shame that some people feel it necessary to piss on other peoples’ parades.

I really don’t understand what his problem is. I’m hardly any “competition” for him as my tapas blog is in English and is simply a listing of my favourite tapas bars and restaurants in Sevilla.
Ah, the price of fame, eh? ๐

Yes, it’s both good news & bad news – good news that he thinks you enough of a threat to target you & bad news that it could damage your reputation in some quarters … amazingly, there are always people who will believe there must be something in any rumour they hear – mud sticks – but without doubt, this guy has a mega personality problem & presumably it boosts his own ego in some way to rubbish & slander other people. It’s difficult to know what the best course of action might be but possibly initially just to ignore him & hope he “shoots himself in the foot” like you said!! ๐

The curious thing about the main lie he is spreading is that all the tapas bar owners would immediately know it’s false. So it must be something he’s telling other foodie people in general, but strange that I heard it via a friend who has nothing to do with food blogs or even blogs.
