I know it doesn’t seem like much, but after a rather harrowing experience at IKEA on Friday evening I ended up with a few much-needed things that I hadn’t picked up during the last harrowing visit … and then I saw these curtains.
Dead cheap at 10 euros but gauzy and pretty and, although they aren’t any great shakes and hang a bit wonkily, they are so perfect for that one livingroom set of balcony windows that gets the morning sun. It’s also the only window that neighbours can see into and, well, they can’t anymore!
Of course now that I’ve got them up I wish I’d bought another pair to put up elsewhere. But I’ll be damned if I’m going to spend busfare and hours of my life again just to buy a 10 euro item.
Or will I…?

It costs $90 for delivery, here. Luckily, I am not far from IKEA. They are building a new “superstore” (if anyone can conceive of an IKEA MORE superstore-like than the existing store). I can only hope that 1) parking is better and 2) you can find your way through the store better and not have to fight your way through 9000 people buying hotdogs while trying to get the Hell out of the store…. and 3) not have to wait 3 hours in a line-up at the cases (and THAT is just on a regular day… not Christmas!)

They do seem rather perfect for that corner, light and airy. Good find! What I would do is wait until I decided that I REALLY REALLY liked and wanted the other set, then I’d go back and they’d be all gone.

Ah, IKEA! I’m always doing that — either going and getting something, only the one item, then going back to find it’s not there anymore…or going and forgetting what I’d made the trek for in the first place!
Those are lovely curtains, airy but private. You do need to get another pair, you know.

Sorry… it costs $69 for delivery in the Ottawa area.
Now… here is the weirdness… $59 in the Montreal area for same-day delivery and $75 for next day delivery… Why does it cost LESS for same day than next day delivery and why does it cost LESS for same-day delivery in Montreal? Anyone who has tried to drive around Montreal knows that 1) the city is HUGE and 2) driving in Montreal is horrifying… not just in terms of the complicated roadways but because of the REALLY horrific traffic.
However, you can rent a van at IKEA for $19.95, now.

Here (in my delivery zone, which is the closest one to the store) it costs 13€ for purchases up to 150€. So if I bought 151€ worth of stuff it would then cost me 28€ to have it delivered. Go figure…
Wow, how absurd to charge more for delivering the next day in Montreal. I prefer not to drive anywhere these days. I worked it out that I can take a helluva lot of taxis and never come close to what it would cost to own and maintain a car.
But it still irks that I may have to (have to? really?) take the stupid frickin bus back out to IKEA to get that extra set of curtains. Bus fare – 2.60€. Time lost – approx 3 hrs. Stress factor – incalculable. But there is no way I am paying a 13€ delivery charge for a 10€ item. Grrrrr…

IKEA delivery came today. Finally have the footstool for The Chair upstairs. Tried it out at the store and it turns an okay comfortable chair into the perfect reading or siesta chair (esp for me as I can’t sit in a chair without elevating my feet). It’s right in front of the door to the terraza so lots of nice light and a cool breeze in the morning and evening. Yay!
