Now that it’s officially autumn – and I’ve even had to get out the duvet! – thoughts of cosying up in bed this winter with a book (or my iPhone) suddenly extended to… watching films in bed! Why had I never thought of this before? I mean, I already had this smaller flatscreen tv and dvd player inherited from Susan when she moved back to the US. In the old place they were set up in Nog’s “office” and occasionally got used, but since moving here they’ve been upstairs and weren’t even properly set up. The idea was that someone might want to watch a film upstairs sometime, which has never happened.
And so last night I moved it all downstairs and set it up on my somewhat rickety old bookcase next to my bed, removed one of the shelves to make room, and I love it! This is the first time in my life I’ve had a television in my bedroom – feels rather decadent. And okay, it’s not set up to the satellite service so I will only be able to watch DVDs on it, but it still seems a bit like Christmas.
Do you have a tv in your bedroom?
In my office/bedroom.

I’ve had to find that I frequently fall asleep now (never happened when I was younger) when watching TV while lying on the sofa! Sweet dreams. 😉

I don’t even have a TV in my house. I play DVDs on a laptop, pretty much the same as you’re set up to do now in your room, so that I don’t have a chink in my home that will allow commercial television broadcasting in. I just hate it.
Long story. Sparing the details, my life has been infested by people who used the television as a method of avoiding human relationships and conversation, people who just didn’t seem able to tear themselves away from the damn thing even if someone else had turned it on, and people who used it for “company” and didn’t really pay attention, but got twitchy and annoyed if you turned off the irritating yick-yack. When I say this, someone is guaranteed to admonish me “But there is some very good stuff on television…” That’s not the point. If it comes highly recommended, now I can get it on DVD or via the Net, like as not. And there is only so much time in the day and I want to read.

There’s plenty I enjoy watching on regular tv that I wouldn’t necessarily want to purchase, and I don’t like watching stuff on the laptop. I prefer the bigger screen and better sound of the flatscreens. I think the one I got from Susan is actually newer and more up-to-date than the bigger one in the living room, so I can plug my computer into it. Now if I could only figure out how to download films…

I’ve found you can download episodes from the BBC America site. At least current ones. So without buying anything I was able to watch the rebooted Upstairs Downstairs episodes. I figure I’ll do the same if Sherlock ever comes back, though I may want to have those to keep (Benedict Cumberbatch, yum). At that point I’m looking at about all I have time for.

We have one TV in the house – in the lounge. Makes it much easier to convince the junior BBJPs that they have no need for as set in their bedrooms since we don’t.

TV in the bedroom has been absolutely banned by me. I’m with Sled in that most of what I watch is recorded, but I still won’t have one in the bedroom – even though there is a TV stand bolted to the wall at near-ceiling height by the previous owners. I popped a big plant up there right away.
Besides, my couch is 6ft long, so there’s plenty of room to sleep to the tube downstairs.

Well, Sevillana casas with 3.5 metre high ceilings tend to get quite chilly in winter and so I’m quite looking forward to getting all cosy under the duvet and being able to watch a film comfortably without having to crank the heating up. Also, I’ll already be in my pj’s when I’m ready to drift off to sleep…
I used to be a tv snob, but there is quite a lot of good stuff out there these days. I just turn the volume off during commercials, grab a snack, check my email, or go to the bathroom…

I have television in my bedroom. I love falling asleep with people talking in the background. We have this great gossip show presented a couple of gay guys, which is just the right amount of jabbering and boring content to doze of.

I have a TV/DVD in my bedroom but rarely watch it. The TV isn’t digital so doesn’t work anyway.
I think the last time I watched a DVD in bed was about a year ago when my then 3 year old niece came to stay. We made a big bowl of popcorn and watched Bee Movie in bed – she thought it was such an adventure, she was still mentioning it months later!

Yeah, I can’t imagine using it often, but it’ll be a nice treat. With popcorn!

My other half suggested it, as he likes to fall asleep with a TV on, but I told him where to go (he loves staying in hotels for this very reason; see SATC: The Movie 2 – I’m with SJP). Too much time spent already with the one telly in our house switched on, definitely don’t want to get another.

I sure wouldn’t like my other half falling asleep next to me every night with the tv on… but hey, this is just me (and the cats) and choice DVDs when I feel like it. Luxury! 🙂

I also have a DVD player in my bedroom and have yet to figure out how to hook it up to the new TV. However, I have HDtv upstairs so I suppose I have at least one advantage, especially with the crap they have on, now. “Toddlers and Tiaras”, “American Hoggers”, and something involving repo men in some place called Lizard Lick… appallingly crappy.
