Looks like I’m going to Florence!!!
My friend Nicky, who I met during the trip to London for the SimonSeeks meeting (she was the Florence expert), has been telling me for ages that I am welcome to come and stay at their holiday rental apartment in low season when they don’t have so many bookings. And it turns out that RyanAir has a direct flight Sevilla-Pisa, and from there you just catch a train from the airport to Florence. It also turns out that my friend Pablo would love to come with me, which is great because I didn’t really fancy going on my own, even though Nicky and her husband Luca will be there. So if all goes well I should be in Florence the last week of February.
I’m still waiting to hear when my next PET scan will be, which of course could change everthing. But fingers crossed that I get another clean scan and also a few more tapas tours to help pay my way.
I’ve never been to Italy before – people often say that Florence is the Italian Sevilla. Very very excited!
Wow, that will be a great trip. I’d love to visit Florence one day

Sevilla is way more rollicking but Florence has all that wonderful art. The Uffizi is one of my favorite museums. I also like the way people walk in the evenings. The best food we had there was at a place that was open on a Sunday evening when most other places were closed. We had guinea fowl and panzanella salad and ribollita. We sat next to the fridge and had to move when people had to use it but it was fabulous. Enough about me. Have a great trip!

I’m betting the food there will be wonderful, but I’m told it’s also quite expensive to eat out. Nicky will know all the best places – she’s kind of the Florence version of me. ๐

I’ll be staying on Via del Parioncino, which is very central…

You will absolutely LOVE it. So much art around every corner. Don’t get caught out with the food, though. Unlike Seville, where you can get a cheap bite just about anywhere, the food in the centre of town can be expensive, so ask around. I do think you have the description the wrong way round, though. Florence isn’t an Italian Seville. Seville is more a Spanish Florence. ๐ Enjoy. You will.

Oh, and do visit the Duomo – you can climb to the top and get a “Giralda” view.

That’s very exciting! I didn’t get to Florence on the Italian leg of my European backpacking trip and I’ve always regretted it.

How exciting! I really hope it works out. I’ve been to Florence twice, but the most recent time was over 20 years ago. I do remember it as a beautiful and fascinating city, and I’d go back in a heartbeat. I’ll be thrilled to see it again through your eyes. Can’t wait for you photos and descriptions!
My fingers are crossed on the PET scan, too

You will love Florence! I go every year in the spring.
Piazza Santo Spirito and of course the Mercato Centrale are my favorite hang outs. Just sit and enjoy ‘la dolce vita de nieta’~the sweet life of doing nothing!
ciao~
