A Christmas card especially for Sledpress, who thinks Christmas is a load of bull. 😉
I took this photo at my friend María Paz’s bar Gago 6 yesterday when Peter and I were out and about spreading (and partaking of) a bit of Christmas cheer by visiting a few of our favourite tapas bars. Today we’ll have a quiet afternoon in and then I’ll be taking out a Flamenco & Tapas Tour starting at 6.30 pm. Quite looking forward to that. And now it’s time to break open the cava, open presents, and have a nice Christmas brunch…
And now for a Christmas joke….Is that a china shop? Deserves a cracker.

God Jul!
But it was yesterday. Today is eating leftovers. Then I must go to the post Office and post holiday cards and parcels. They will at least be in time for next year 😉

I was wondering where my card was… 😉 Mind you, didn’t get round to sending out any this year myself.

Toro! Toro!
Now a few more displays like that and I’d be less cynical.
Really, I still cherish certain things about it — the slowing-down for example (when it finally happens, which unfortunately in most of the US is not until right now, Christmas morning). The selection of gifts for people who are valuable to you — to me, the joy is finding something that shows you care about who they are and what their lives are about. And it gives people who are otherwise grumpy a license to hug.
It’s just a bit more wearing every year to deal with the forced festivity, the 10,000 repetitions of hackneyed carol arrangements on every public address and radio channel, and the frenzied shopping. I saw two insane life-risking maneuvers yesterday just in five minutes in one parking lot (where I had NOT gone to Christmas shop). Someone got killed just outside the nearest mall by a car that jumped the curb. In the US at least, business news dwells on how big the Christmas shopping season will be for the economy. And we had stores opening on Thanksgiving this year, to add a day to the shopping season. Thanksgiving to me is an even more BS holiday, but for pity’s sake, people ought to keep the right to a whole day off.
But a bull festooned with sparkly lights? That’s better than reindeer!

Even better… it’s a papier maché bull! And there are about half a dozen around the bar (will have to re-do their photos on ST after the Christmas decorations come down).

Really, sister? Where were you when I was sick on chemo and desperately needed help? I see one of our brothers is now trying to raise funds on Facebook for a friend who has cancer – it never occurred to any of you to do any such thing for me when I was sick and unable to work? Or to help me instead of going on holiday to Disneyland?
Well, as it turns out I do have plenty of love and happiness now, thanks. None of which was provided by my so-called family. Sorry to be such a downer, Sherry, but I just can’t allow you to show up here on my personal blog and pretend that you actually care. Because I know you don’t. If a sibling feeling totally scared and suffering from stage 4 cancer doesn’t bring out any true family generosity then WTF?

Sounds just about perfect, Deb. Mine was quite cosy and comfy, followed by a Flamenco & Tapas Tour with lovely people, which really topped the day off.
