Well, maybe. Remember my Northern Spain Adventure? I’m having second thoughts now that summer vacation time is almost here. Mostly because it’s not the kind of trip I want to do alone. I think there would be too many amazing moments that I’d want to share with someone. And I think it’s the kind of trip that is best done with a car, so perhaps better another time when I can go with someone who wants to do the same thing and who can also drive. The thought of me on my own catching buses and trains and then just hanging out alone in new places I’ve always wanted to visit somehow doesn’t appeal.
Having said that, I am still determined about taking my first ever proper holiday, as in, taking more than a few days off and not working while I’m away. So I may spend a whole two weeks in Málaga (if I can get Manolo’s apartment – still waiting to hear back) which would be different from my past quick getaways, and it would allow me to do some day trips while I’m there. I don’t mind exploring on my own but I think it will feel more relaxing to do this from a place I already feel at home (and I could take Smudge with me). I’m hoping to do this during the last two weeks of July, so fingers crossed.
I’m now thinking of also taking a week or so in August and doing a quick London & Bristol visit. Because who knows what news the September PET scan will bring? So I really want to make the most of this summer, even if I don’t do the northern adventure.
What are your summer plans?
That sounds good – would Smudge travel OK, and be OK in the appartment while you explore?
My plans?
May have mentioned this here before – can’t remember – but Mrs. BBJP and I head off next Friday to the Lake District, where we will then be walking across England to the coast of North Yorkshire. St. Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay. It will be a fortnight to walk 190 miles.
We were always going to do this “sometime” but last year’s heart attack made us decide that if I could get fit enough, and I hope I am, we would make the “sometime” now – no point in waiting to do stuff, assuming you can afford it etc etc.

I’ve traveled alone a lot here in Spain, and while I love it, I’ve gotten to the point where I’m sick of it. Having someome to enjoy free time with, to talk and ramble around, is as much a treat as seeing a new place. Just make sure that you and your companion(s)give each other space and free time. And do bring Smudge. You’ll enjoy it all the more.

I’m going solo camping and fly fishing for a week starting Sunday morning. After that, I just plan on gardening, buiding a couple banjos, reading, writing, painting, the usual.

I feel kind of like the Dowager Countess. “What is a ‘summer’?”

We’re going to Ilfracombe for a week from the 15th, along with Cath (Mike can’t get the time off work) & Sue. Hopefully the lovely summer weather we’re experiencing at the moment will still be with us! Meanwhile, we’re gardening & power hosing every spare moment we have in case the weather doesn’t last!!
