I don’t know of any other social media platform that can do this. Usually this blog serves as my MEMORY for when I want to check back on when this or that happened. And to be honest I was actually going to write a post about my new iridescent green jacket – never forget this is the MOST BORING BLOG in the world! – but couldn’t find a good photo of it. And while I was kicking myself for not doing this when they told me at El Corte Inglés they could only help me if I remembered the exact day I bought the jacket I suddenly remembered this tweet.
I only chat like this on Twitter. My random whatevers. Though I am making progress with Bluesky in case Twitter suddenly flips over and dies. After trying ALL the Twitter alternatives Bluesky is the one that works for me. And really? I’ve been meeting some lovely people there. Poco á poco.
This weekend Meta Dread Threads was finally approved by the EU so people here could join up and bing bing bing suddenly all their friends from Facebook and Instagram were there too because (duh) IT’S THE SAME FUCKING COMPANY. So they are signing up in droves because omg it’s so easy! I don’t know why the EU finally decided to let Threads in, and I don’t care. I am just NOT going to have every single social media platform I use being run by the same crazed company.
So for now I am sticking with floundering Twitter and upstart Bluesky. If you need a Bluesky invite code just let me know.
Not ready to to multiply my social media accounts yet — I feel as if I can barely keep up with the existing ones — but the day may come that I ask for that invite. Twitter is a hot mess, but it still is the place where I encounter posts from people I had conversations with years ago and feel at home. I wish I felt as free to post remarks or reply to Tweets as I did before things got so ugly, a process when was in motion before Lone Skum took over but is now the dominant culture. I’ve had people whom I AGREED WITH jump down my throat because they did not read a reply attentively, and just seemed to expect a fight. I don’t have the energy to waste on that, so these days I mostly just retweet things I think contain valuable information or hit the ❤ button. It’s depressing.

Yeah, I use the “who can reply” option if I mention anything that might attract trolls and bots. For example, any mention of covid. Helps a lot.
I find the best thing to do with people who leave asshole comments on my twitter posts is to just not reply and so their comment just sits there like the steaming hot turd it is…

Exactly. Never punch the tar baby. Only I got to a point where I just didn’t want to see it at all, and I honestly don’t know what you do when someone attacks you for *supporting their viewpoint*. I do notice that if I simply repost Covid related Tweets, I don’t see much trolling. But it really has spoiled the fun.
