First time seeing these two lovelies since before you-know-what. Anne and Paul are temporary neighbours this week, visiting from Jerez and staying just down the street from me. Today we met up for lunch at Castizo and had a lovely time catching up. Hoping for a trip to Jerez soon so we can do it again over there!

What an absolute treat it was to NOT eat tapas for a change! This (mostly vegetarian) feast was enjoyed at Fatouch, Sevilla’s newest (only?) Lebanese restaurant. I met up with my Lebanese friend Fourat, who of course knows the restaurant owner Anas, and she proceeded to order. Another treat for me! I didn’t have to do anything but sit back and enjoy. A review on Sevilla Tapas is coming up soon but if you want to see the entire meal have a look on my Sevilla Tapas Instagram. We had…
Hummus BeirutĂ
Hummus Remolacha
Fatouch Clásico
Pita
Labneh
Kafta
Falafel with tahini
Seriously the BEST falafal I’ve had since I lived in Toronto. Can’t wait to go back.

I bought these shoes two years ago (!!!) during the Black Friday sales, but somehow didn’t get around to breaking them in that winter. And then, yep, Covid happened. So last night was their Sevilla debut when I wore them out on a tapas tour. I was concerned I might get blisters so put a protective plaster on each heel. But it turned out they were snug but quite comfy. So between these and a barely used puffy jacket (also purchased two years ago) that I re-discovered in my closet I’m pretty much set up for winter wear.

Walking past my neighbourhood churros place, the legendary CalenterĂa San Pablo, I saw these signs (the Spanish one says “we won’t serve anyone without a mask”) and asked if I could take a photo. Because… YES. The churros counter is open to the street but of course people coming up to place orders are less than a metre away from the staff. I was told they have been threatened by customers who yell at them and say all kinds of nasty crap. But you know what? Their business, THEIR RULES. So suck it up, assholes.
I am so grateful for the continued mask mandate in Spain, which we’ve been told will be in place at least until spring. Even though more and more people (mostly tourists) are not wearing masks outdoors even when not maintaining the 1.5 metre social distance requirement, at least there is an element of safety when going anywhere indoors or public transport, etc.
Covid infection numbers have been steadily rising the past few weeks and there is already talk of the sixth wave. Happily they have reduced the time between second jabs and the booster, from six months to three, so I should be getting mine very soon.
