cat fight redux

This post follows on from here . . .

To recap – back in December I clicked on a Youtube vid called ‘Meowarchy: demon cats’. It was a Sunday morning so I was in bed with Nog and his laptop, drinking coffee and doing a bit of blogging, etc. And my two cats were also curled up in bed after having had a nice brekky. But I was a bit too slow in shutting the video off when I saw it was upsetting the boys – it really was loud and scary sounding – and there was a serious fight . . .

And not only that but the 11-year ‘best mates’ relationship they’d always enjoyed was somehow totally shattered in that one moment.

The update is that now in April they are slowly coming to accept each other again. But it still ends up with at least one major FIGHT a day, which unfortunately ends up with the smaller cat, Azar, peeing all over the place out of fear (it’s the bigger guy, Sunny, who’s the aggressor). Yet both of them seem equally upset every time it happens. Almost as if they have no idea why they are both acting that way.

It’s been fun but also quite trying at times . . .

Moving stuff over from the old Jaguar to the new Sexy Beast is taking quite a long time. Good thing there’s this Semana Santa thing going on at the moment so I don’t have pesky stuff like work getting in the way. Heck, I’m even letting Nog cook! 😉

My very first computer was a very old second hand one given to me by a friend, known as the Dinosaur. So when I was able to finally buy my own brand new desktop four years ago it felt like driving a Jag in comparison. And of course my new one is just soooo sexy.

The good thing is that the Jag is still running more or less okay, so I will still be able to access stuff there as well as here. And in a way it feels a bit like spring cleaning. So many of the Jag’s files are very disorganised and full of junk I was saving ‘just in case’. So starting off fresh with SB means I can pick and choose what I want & need here and leave the rest ‘in the attic’, so to speak.

And so we are now a three-computer household. f_jester.gif

Nog is making dinner!

Not sure what’s got into him. This is something he’s been threatening me with since I first met him – to make his special bacon ‘risotto’. Which apparently has little (nothing?) to do with real risotto – the main clue being that this dish doesn’t actually include risotto rice. Fine. It seems to contain some other nice things: bacon, garlic, mushrooms, peppers … and normal long grain rice.

So far I’ve always managed to convince him that taking me out for a tapita would be the preferable option. Except that today, being in the throws of Semana Santa, we can’t actually leave our building.

I have been banished to the livingroom with a glass of rioja to await the result . . . serious role reversal. 🙂

I mean, Nog makes great coffee and occasionally I let him make me toast. Though the last time I was sick with a cold and asked him to make some chicken soup (from a package) it would have been a disaster if I hadn’t stepped in. So I guess you can imagine why I sit here with some trepidation. Luckily there is an unopened packet of Doritos in the cupboard in case it all goes for a burton . . . 😉

It’s very sexy, but should I get it?

I’ve been thinking about getting a laptop for some time now, even though it isn’t entirely necessary as my desktop PC is still running okay (though it does growl and get cranky from time to time). And then today I came across this Toshiba Satellite P100-233 on special offer for 999 euros. In another shop it was 1899 euros.

The main differences between the two were that the more expensive one had more memory (120 whatsits) than the other one (80), and it had Windows Vista Premium while the cheaper one had Windows XP Media Centre (Vista compatible). Both had the same ‘chassis’ – a 17″ widescreen and a very attractive metallic orange lid.

Any advice? I personally can’t see that a bit more memory and a brand new Windows operating system still probably full of bugs is worth spending almost twice as much for. In fact, I wouldn’t even consider it at the higher price. And actually, I only started seriously considering the 999€ laptop after I saw the other one – I reckoned that if I could get pretty much the same thing for almost half-price then I’d be getting quite a good deal.

Oh, the other thing is that I really can’t afford this (then again, that’s what credit cards are for, aren’t they?). Nor do I really need it at the moment. Though I do think it’s only a matter of time before my desktop starts doing seriously weird stuff rather than just annoyingly weird stuff and I’d like to be prepared for that. Also, I would quite enjoy the freedom of movement a laptop allows you … plus I’m sure Nog would appreciate me not hogging his all the time. 😉

So what should I do?

I’m so lucky that Sunny is actually a dog.

Took him to the vet’s on Friday for a general check-up and also to ask about him taking some tranquilisers short term to see if it’ll help with the cat fight situation. He also needs to take a natural supplement for his renal system, so this means a pill and a half each day.
