Duck survives two days in fridge
I don’t get it. The guy shot the duck – clearly in order to kill it – and then because the wife saw it was still alive in the fridge they went through great time and expense to keep it alive?
Ummm? 😕

Having a cat day today.
It’s 4pm and I’m still in my pj’s. Okay, am doing a bit of work on the translation project Nog and I have going (that just might pay for a trip to London in late April). But other than that it’s been a rather glorious self-indulgent day so far.
Being a Saturday, we should have been up and out of the house at least before noon to do our usual Saturday morning errands – a routine I usually adore. But I somehow feel quite unable to get dressed today (though I have done something with my hair so as not to scare Nog too much). 😉
It’s a rather decadent feeling to think about all the stuff that had been planned for today and then to cross them off the list one-by-one going – ‘ah, who cares?’ – and just stay in pj’s and do whatever feels good.

Excellent Grauniad article.
Women who fixate on their weight, unless we’re dealing with eating disorders, are not intelligent. Intelligence is not bestowed at birth, assessed through childhood and fixed until death. It is an aggregate of what you’ve got and what you do with it.
If you chuck it all away counting calories and wondering what size a Gap 2 really is in English, then that does not sit oddly atop your intelligence, like a monkey on a camel. The act of concentrating on trivia locks your mind like a bandsaw in one direction. It precludes the kind of inquiry that might make you extend yourself. It simply makes you less intelligent.
I know that might sound a bit harsh but I like the no-nonsense approach of what the writer has to say. Clearly when we are doing something stupid we are not being ‘intelligent’.

You Are 73% Perfectionist |
![]() You are a true perfectionist. You are both demanding of yourself and others. While it’s great to have goals and standards, they don’t need to be sky high! |

It’s finally here!
It’s about 9.30 on birthday morning and I am sitting all snug and warm in bed using Nog’s laptop and being totally spoilt. Nog has brought me some lovely hot coffee and a plate of our favourite arabic pastries for brekky. Mmmm . . .
Later on we are going to open some
and then go out for lunch at our favourite restaurant – it might even be warm enough to sit outside on the terrace.
And of course there is still the Barcelona trip to look forward to (next Friday).
I’m also thinking about what ‘being 50’ means to me. Sure, you can say it’s just a number, but I think it’s quite something that I’ve made it this far and feel that this should mark some sort of turning point in my life. At least it’s a time to take stock and finally get to work on all those things I’ve been putting off, as well as accepting that I’m not actually young anymore and need to take better care of myself.
I was considering having a mid-life crisis but then decided that would be somewhat overly optimistic. Anyhoodle, welcome to my birthday – help yourself to some bubbly and pastries (there’s more in the kitchen).
Glad you could stop by.
