Australian Big Brother under fire
The Australian version of the TV programme Big Brother has come under criticism for deciding not to tell a contestant that her father had died.
Emma Cornell has been cut off from the outside world since entering the reality TV show’s house a month ago.
She still does not know that her father Raymond died of cancer last week.
Bet the ratings go up now too. 🙄

And it seems to fit in just fine with the ‘new look’ Avenida de la Constitución, so the worries I expressed over here last month turned out to be unfounded.
It also has a very good selection of DVDs and CDs. Lots of cool electronic and computer stuff. And they even sell vinyl records! The English book section is a bit small but I did manage to find a Terry Pratchett book I haven’t yet read. Anyhow, I think it’s a rather nice addition to Sevilla.
How do you like the new trams? This one is just for show as they aren’t operating yet. Apparently they will be removing the overhead cables within the year and we’ll be getting battery operated trams – not quite sure what happened there.
Now if they’d just blow-up all the Starbucks that have sprouted like vile mushrooms all down the Avenida . . .

Look what we just bought!
Well, we don’t have it yet – it’s going to be delivered on Tuesday.
Courtesy of our big translation job. Not bad for one job – a trip to Lisbon, a 32″ flat screen television and a hopefully debt-free summer (I usually always go into debt during the summer as there is next to no teaching work). But that’ll be the end of this recent spate of retail therapy madness.
Quite looking forward to seeing House on the BIG SCREEN.

Has there ever been a good one?
Inspired by reading this post over on Polonius’s blog, I started to wonder about the worst ever movie remakes. I haven’t seen many myself, but the worst that stands out in recent memory is the Cohn Bros. totally dire version of The Ladykillers.
Perhaps we should limit this to original screenplays as ‘remakes’ of Shakespeare, Dickens & Austen abound and it’s a personal choice as to which is the ‘definitive’ version. And of course The Bunny Remakes are all fabulous. 
So, what is the worst remake you’ve ever seen?
And which film would you hate to see made again?

Who on earth does this person think she is?
Like, somebody even remotely important? Check this article out … Hilton backs online pardon appeal
Yeah well, duh, of course she would back it. Meanwhile, why the hell should she get an appeal? Because she’s a stupid and stupidly rich heiress who has become ‘famous’ for being a vacuous socialite party animal?
The petition paints Ms Hilton as a role model who “provides hope for young people all over the US and the world. She provides beauty and excitement to (most of) our otherwise mundane lives”.
It also draws parallels between other high-profile US figures who were forgiven for their misdeeds.
If the late Former President Gerald Ford could find it in his heart to pardon the late Former President Richard Nixon … we undeniably support Paris Hilton being pardoned
WTF???
If she truly wants to “provide hope for young people” it will be by serving out her jail sentence and showing them that this is what happens when you are an irresponsible spoilt brat. One shudders to think who she may have killed whilst out driving drunk and not caring a flying fuck about anyone but herself.
