50 vintage ads

twiggy-lashes
I actually remember this Twiggy ad!

Love the “high tech” ones for the picture phone and especially the “angry young computer”. Felt very Mad Men going through these (the drawing in the Dobbs ad looks exactly like Don Draper) though I was very surprised to see Dave Brubeck flogging Kenmore dryers. And what was up with all those gay black dudes drinking Bud? Seems very risqué for its time.

Which ones did you like best?

addicted to twitter?

addicted to twitter

How addicted to Twitter are you?

It’s not as bad as I thought, especially as I now have two Twitter accounts to keep me busy. I first signed up in May 2007 but didn’t really start using Twitter until last August. Now it’s a serious daily habit and I’ve been making a lot of interesting contacts.  In fact, I’ll be meeting one of them for a cold beer later on today.

Twitter isn’t just a cute way for keeping in instant touch with friends on mobile phones anymore. It has ramped up quickly to be the search engine of choice for some with its human driven results.

Applications galore allow you to find friends all over the world with similar interests and keep up with them in real time.

Businesses can form instant direct relationships with their customer bases simply by signing up and using the service regularly, and according to the models Twitter is trying out, they will soon be able to advertise to the Twitter community as well.
– Twitter Tutorial

Back in February I did a Twitter mosaic of my followers on the azahar account. Below you can see the up-to-date version of the people I am following there. . .

nogginthenog

The other day Nog finally succumbed after watching me check out my tweets for the umpteenth time and said that he wouldn’t mind having a go. So a few minutes later we had a page set up for him, though he couldn’t get the name he wanted and had to resort to putting an underline in front. He’s still getting the hang of it, but I think quite enjoys the pithyness of the whole thing. Next step will be updating his blog . . .

your post is awaiting moderation

waiting

A blog friend of mine recently had to switch to pre-mod on her blog because of an ugly smelly troll who started bothering her, and I quite understood the reasoning behind that. But I’ve come across several other people whose blogs have this set up and I’ve wondered if they’d had problems in the past or were just being extra careful or … ?

The only problem that I have with pre-mod is that you usually don’t get to see what other people have said before you (because their comments are also awaiting moderation) and for me this kind of takes something away from the whole blogging experience, interrupts the flow or something.  I often find the comments (and banter between commenters) just as entertaining as the post itself. Also, when you are “commenting blind” there is the risk of writing something that seriously jars with what others have been saying, or you can inadvertently put your foot in it, depending on what was said just before you.

So, two questions.

  1. If you moderate comments on your blog before publishing them … why have you chosen to do this?
  2. How do you feel about commenting on blogs that hold all comments for moderation?

Yeah I know, but . . .

This really isn’t as reckless and frivolous as it may first appear. At least let me explain before you decide. Yesterday I had to take my Sexy Beast to computer hospital because of the fracture problem I told you about earlier. At the time I wondered how the hell I would manage without a computer at home for the month or so that SB would be gone, especially as Nog’s laptop had died awhile back. On the way home that day I stopped by the computer section of the store and saw this very basic Toshiba on special offer, and after that I went home and did some research…
