january blues

… I haz them. With oranges.

All this talk about Juno (when did they start naming snow storms?) and Stormaggeddon. Honestly, at the risk of sounding like one of the four Yorkshire men, when I were a lass I often used to have to walk to school in waist-deep snow. We just bundled up and donned our mukluks. Photos of the Juno afflicted areas look like regular winter days in the places I grew up. Of course, I’d hate it now, but hey, that’s why I live here.

december skies

This is a completely unfiltered photo of what December is looking like here. After a couple of rainy weeks these brilliant blue skies are very welcome, along with mild temps and being able to sit outside and enjoy a drink along with some people watching. In other weather-related news, since yesterday it’s been “snowing” here at Casa Az (though my cheeky friend @FredShively got in touch to tell me that my blog had dandruff!). But I admit that it does look a bit odd to be snowing on palm trees.

How’s the weather where you are?

winter curtainsThe other night it was actually chilly enough to want some heat, but not enough to put the central heating on. So I turned on a small space heater in the living room, closed all the other doors (hallway, kitchen, bathroom, my bedroom) to make the space “smaller”. It got quite cosy in a short time, so I started wondering if I could use this “system” with the space heater and oil-filled portable radiator during the winter and save money. But it was clear that once it got colder a lot of the warm air would go straight up the stairs. It was then I remembered the thick lined curtains that came with the apartment (and are stored in Peter’s closet). Next day I bought a small curtain rod and you can the result. I think it’ll do the trick! Though of course this will put the kibosh on the Mouse Game until spring…
