Today I went to get my flu jab and the nurse said I was also eligible for a bonus pneumonia jab (cos I’m OLD), so I said, hell yes, give me all the jabs. One in each arm. Still waiting for word on the Covid booster shot. At the moment in Andalucía they are only doing over 70s and front line workers, and beginning to give kids their first jabs. Anyhow. This is good. Because I really feel this winter is going to be the real test re: Covid and all the variants, and how (if?) we end up working together to eradicate it. And every day I give thanks that we will have a mask mandate in place until (at least) next spring.

Aaaack! I bought gluten free bread by mistake! These days my favourite bread is “pan cristal” which is pretty much what it sounds like. Cristal bread, like a super light chapata with a thin crispy crust. It’s also about as far away from this sad soulless stodge as you can get. I mean just look at it. Anyhow, I’m sorry to say I tossed it, because I hate food waste, but I just couldn’t. Made some buttery noodles in self defence and ended up feeling so much empathy for coeliacs everywhere. As for the “gluten free” brigade who somehow think gluten is bad for them, they deserve every miserable moment they get from eating this crap.

Today turned into a Stay At Home Day, which was fine by me. Nothing much planned, not much to do other than the usual (photo editing, updating Sevilla Tapas, social media, etc)… and so I decided to make biscuits. Because it’s cool enough now (only 27º!) to put the oven on. This time I experimented with my basic baking soda biscuit recipe and added grated manchego cheese to half of the dough. And omg they were good, both versions. The cheesy ones didn’t actually need any butter added but, you know, what the heck. How’s your Tuesday going?

Last Monday it was the special wine tasting event with Bodegas Mustigullo and this Monday it was an invitation to try the Mediterranean tasting menu at the new Saona Restaurant in Triana with other invited INFLUENCERS. Gotta admit I’ve never warmed to this idea and still think of myself as an accidental influencer, but in the end it was a fun afternoon. Very good food paired with wonderful wines from Valencia, and also fun meeting up with a few friends I hadn’t seen in ages.
