What a girl. Morcilla is getting soooo demanding Normally she has her little table next to my office chair, in front of the balcony doors (closed winter and summer) but now that it’s cooler and I have the doors open, her table is behind me. Obviously this will not stand! For days she’s been howling at me and I couldn’t figure out the “problem”, then I move her table over to the other side of my chair and… fine. That’s all she wanted. To be sitting closer. Gotta say she has the gift of being equal parts annoying and adorable at the same time.

Me: I can’t find the new envelopes.
Peter: I didn’t touch them.
Me: They were in your shopping bag.
P: I don’t remember seeing them.
Me: Except you TOOK THEM OUT OF YOUR SHOPPING BAG.
P: Then what did you do with them?
Me: I didn’t do anything, you must have put them somewhere.
P: I don’t remember putting them anywhere.
Two hours later…
Me: I FOUND THE ENVELOPES.
P:
Me: They were in my office drawer. I had already put the cards inside.
P:
Me: Well you still took them out of your bag and put them in the office.
Long long years of two (most of the time) friends living together. And now mostly bumbling along with bad memories, various dodgy joints and other ailments, and almost daily farcical spats. But it kinda works? Like we’re family by now so put up with each other… and even sometimes like each other 😉 To be honest a lot of 65-70+ peeps would probably do better in this set up than being “looked after” somewhere. At least for the moment what one of can’t do the other one can, and vice versa. But if Peter kicks the bucket before me, goddamn I’ll be annoyed! Who will take out the rubbish and drive me crazy a hundred times a day?? And be that one person I can rely on.

My building was renovated back in the early 90s and I have to say they did a lovely job of it. Just two apartments, with two shops on the ground floor. I live on the second floor and share a light-filled glassed-in patio with my downstairs neighbour. We have marble floors, wood doors and window frames, charming plaster ceilings and – one of the things I love best about this Casa Azahar – a gorgeous tiled bathroom with a walk-in shower. Ok, the kitchen is a bit poky, but I bought a small IKEA pantry that sits in the hallway outside the kitchen door that helps. There’s also a shared rooftop space (azotea) which is mostly used for hanging laundry, but during Covid lockdown both neighbour Encarni and I took advantage of it to get some much needed fresh air, sunshine and exercise.
The decoration throughout the house is classic, I think mostly done by Encarni who has lived here since the beginning… so there are a few fake plants here and there in the entrance and stairway, as well as a few tiled depictions of this or that saint on the walls as you go up… and there are also these lovely glass wall light fixtures. I didn’t pay them much mind other than to notice how pretty they are UNTIL… I had my new mattress delivered last month. (psa reminder: this is the world’s most boring blog – continue at your own risk)… Continue reading
