Unless you’ve been living under a Twitter rock you will have heard about Derek Guy aka menswear guy, a young menswear writer originally from Canada, now living in the SF area. I stumbled upon him one long sleepless night and thought… wtf? this is interesting, also this guy is funny af.

You may or may not know that when I was mid-20-something I went to Toronto to study fashion design (George Brown College), ended up spending a few years there working with a few prominent local designers, and then I headed for the hills (actually Spain via Bristol, England) when I realised that wasn’t the life for me. And so although Derek is all about menswear I also understand pattern cutting, fabric weights, etc and love his takes on how certain trends and styles have come into existence. Also I really learn a lot. As has the rest of the Twitter world who now shout COLLAR GAP and LOWER BUTTON WTF when we watch films or whatever… he has ruined us for life. And we all love him for it.

The other thing is, you go for the fashion and style expertise and then stay for the exquisite snark because OMG Derek has it down. I think these days he’s as well-known for his brutal take downs of asshole trolls as he is for his smart commentary on how we view style and fashion based on history. He’s become one of the highlights of my day.
