Sooo… went out shopping for some sandals and a summer skirt and came home with this fab Desigual scarf instead. Does this happen to you too?

Nope, I didn’t name these. Camper did. Boots called Agatha (which is also the name of one of Sledpress‘s cats). Anyhow, I went out for a walk with no destination in mind (always dangerous) and decided to look in a few shoe shops since Winter is Coming (though you wouldn’t know it by the recent 30º temps). What I had in mind was a simple pair of flat black slip-ons and somehow ended up with these. I think I love them.

People often ask me if there is anything I miss from “home” (meaning Canada) and, once I point out that Spain is my home, the answer is no. Well okay, maybe fresh wood-oven baked bagels from Toronto. But one thing I do miss from the UK is Marks & Spencer, especially their lingerie department. Longtime readers with long memories may remember my many failed attempts at getting into Gibraltar in order to buy underwear. Happily, with the arrival of online shopping I can now order my M & S knickers from home. But since I don’t know how the sizes convert, I still need to use the UK site (which doesn’t deliver to Spain) and have stuff delivered to a friend there and then they forward it to me here. So this was the special delivery from Marks & Spencer yesterday, via dear friend Lizzie in Bristol. Should keep me going for awhile…

The winter and summer sales are the best times (and for me the only times) to get new sheets and towels. Since the arrival of The New Bed last October I’ve been using the old king-size sheets which are 1) really old and 2) way too big, so today I decided to splash out on some new ones. In the past I’ve gone for simple cotton sheets that I’d jazz up with some embroidered trim but this time these 330 thread Egyptian cotton ones caught my eye.
Now for some (sledpress) 330 may not seem like such a high thread count, but for me this is total luxury. And of course now there is no going back to the usual cheapo 180 thread sheets so before the sales end I’m going to have to get a second set of these. But hey, I’m worth it.
What’s your favourite extravagence?

There’s an expression in Spanish – como un niño con zapatos nuevos – which is used when someone is excited about a new purchase or gift. In this case it’s doubly accurate as I am very pleased at having found a pair of zapatos nuevos that 1) fit and 2) are rather cute. So I am finally able to put my 7-year-old red Campers out to pasture.
Of course I found these while looking for new sandals as my old Mephistos seriously bit the bullet last summer and are no longer wearable. But I reckoned that if I didn’t get these now, next autumn – like last autumn – I may not find any suitable shoes.
Meanwhile, it was definitely sandal weather this past weekend and though it’s cooler again this week I’m sure it’ll soon be too warm to wear my new shoes, so new sandals must be found as soon as possible. Life ain’t easy when you have triple EEE feet.
