Nog is making dinner!
Not sure what’s got into him. This is something he’s been threatening me with since I first met him – to make his special bacon ‘risotto’. Which apparently has little (nothing?) to do with real risotto – the main clue being that this dish doesn’t actually include risotto rice. Fine. It seems to contain some other nice things: bacon, garlic, mushrooms, peppers … and normal long grain rice.
So far I’ve always managed to convince him that taking me out for a tapita would be the preferable option. Except that today, being in the throws of Semana Santa, we can’t actually leave our building.
I have been banished to the livingroom with a glass of rioja to await the result . . . serious role reversal. 🙂
I mean, Nog makes great coffee and occasionally I let him make me toast. Though the last time I was sick with a cold and asked him to make some chicken soup (from a package) it would have been a disaster if I hadn’t stepped in. So I guess you can imagine why I sit here with some trepidation. Luckily there is an unopened packet of Doritos in the cupboard in case it all goes for a burton . . . 😉
And speaking of risotto, check out Dan’s here on The Samovar – it looks fabulous.
Have to admit the smells wafting in here from the kitchen are quite appetizing . . .

Well, that went quite well, though I say it myself. A little bit salty, but that can be adjusted on future occassions.
Ingredients: rice, bacon, garlic, onion, spring onion, pimientos, sweet corn, mushrooms, salt, pepper, rosemary, oregano, olive oil.
The verdict of the azid test will follow shortly.

A man’s place is in the kitchen…at least in daytime 😉

Well, we decided he should leave out the salt next time but it was actually very tasty.
Such a lovely experience to be handed a dish of hot steamy food … though I wonder if this means I have to do the washing up! 😕

Seems only fair.

BUT … does this include last night’s pizza pan and dishes??? Eh?

I’ll say! He even did all the washing up – talk about win-win. 🙂

It sounds lovely. M’s idea of cooking was broiled bologna on toast, with cheese. He considered the height of culinary expertise to be cutting the edges of the bologna so it wouldn’t curl up! 😀

I have to say…I find the sex divide in cooking rather bizarre. I’m the main cook im my household, and it genuinely amazes me just how much praise I get from outsiders for it. But it’s a general life skill, isn’t it? Like sewing or changing a wheel. I know seevral other households in which men routinely cook (and not just manly barbecues, or elaborate ‘special’ dinners that leave the kitchen wrecked). But then again…I also know men who only have a vague idea where their kitchen is.
(Don’t be fooled by my apparent feminism. It’s just an act I put on to impress the laydeez ;-))

Well, az does do most of the cooking, and she’s a better cook than I am. But I can cook well enough to eat a proper diet if I’m ever left to my own devices.
