I’m devastated! The best tapa bar in my street – Cervecería Giralda – has closed. It’s such a landmark that it’s going to be hard to imagine Sevilla without it. I saw the owner this evening at his other bar, La Estrella, and asked him why he closed down the best tapa bar in the street and he said he wanted to start slowing down taking things easier. I reckon he was made an offer he couldn’t refuse as it’s in a very prime location. It better not turn out to be another bloody Starbucks!
Meanwhile, we can still go to La Estrella as the tapa menu is pretty much the same there and it’s only about a five-minute walk from home. But it doesn’t have the same charm and ‘ambientation’ and you can’t sit outside under the orange trees and enjoy people watching as well as a lovely view of the cathedral.

Oh wow, I’m sorry to hear this. It was a great place to eat and one of my favourites in Sevile for ambience.
Though of course nothing really compares to Las Columnas… 😉

I just hate it when favorite places go ‘pfffftt!’
Hopefully, you’ll have many lovely walks to t’other tapa bar…with many an orange tree to shade you. 🙂

The thing is, if he wanted to take things easier I wonder why he didn’t close the other bar? Which is why I suspect that a huge sum of money was involved, which makes me think ‘big multinational corporation’. *shudder*
I know it’s silly but I have so many lovely memories connected to that place that I feel really upset whenever I think of it being gone forever.

You might be right about the “multinational” bit. That’s a lovely street, and I remember a piccy or two taken there, with oranges hanging above your table.
Maybe it won’t be as bad as you think…there might be a different company than the panderers of burned coffee! Actually, I’d prefer the smell of a cup of burned coffee to the smell of grease from a McFastFood… 😕

Bar Estrella is on calle Estrella – it’s a very short street so you can’t miss it (once you find the street, that is).
