Yay!
Got the pin out this afternoon. And the bloody cast/bandage contraption is finally gone, which feels wonderful after 17 days of it.
Da Finga is still quite swollen and its mates have become rather unbendy as well, but it’s great having a bit more dexterity – though I’ll have to be very careful not to overdo it. But just being able to use the thumb with the index finger makes all the difference.
So although puffy and still a bit painful, at least my hand can breathe again.
That’ll do for now. 🙂
A few more days and you should be able to do the washing up, sweep the floors, keep the place tidy….

Hang on a sec … I don’t do the washing up anyhow – that’s your job! Ha, trying to trick me.
But seriously, it’s hard not to overdo it, especially with the other fingers slowly loosening up a bit.
Now I’m thinking that I probably don’t have to go back to the surgeon on Monday – Agustín can just as easily check on how well it’s healing and it won’t cost me 10 euros, nor take up two hours of my life.
Meanwhile, due to ‘complications’ from the bout of gastrointeritis the other day, I’m supposed to go for a blood test tomorrow morning, bring the results to the specialist on Tuesday and arrange for a colonoscopy (eep!).
But frankly I’m all ‘hospitalled out’ at the moment, so I reckon the blood test results can wait until I get back from Lisbon. I’ll have Agustín take a look at da finga tomorrow and will arrange for the other icky test – to be honest I’ve been considering having one of those anyhow as apparently it’s recommended once you hit 50.
As I am mostly dealing with private hospitals I am wary of the ‘too many tests’ syndrome. Especially after one unscrupulous doctor almost had Nog convinced to have an op done on his ear. But my danger radar was going off big time around this person and after getting a second opinion (from a specialist friend of a doctor friend) it turned out the op would have been totally useless, though it would have provided a bit of extra income for the scumbag so-called doctor. Grrrrr.

When I dislocated my index finger it took around three years to get back to full dexterity. Luckily it was my left hand which was affected – oops – I guess that means I got back to full sinisterity.

Puts a new slant on the term ambidextrous, doesn’t it?

Three years??? Yikes.
Thanks to Agustín, I managed to avoid today’s and yesterday’s hospital appointments.
Apparently da finga is healing nicely (though it’s still swollen and somewhat painful). I spoke to the surgeon on the phone and he said that starting Friday I should take off the plastic finger protector and let it start bending a bit on its own, though I should still wear the protector to bed.
The other fingers are slowly loosening up but I still can’t clench them, which kind of makes my hand look like a claw, which then makes me laugh as I remember The Craw in Get Smart – “not The Craw, The Craw!!!” 🙂

I’ve always felt that a good dose of conflict and occasional helping of misery are in fact what a long-term relationship is all about.
After all, if you can’t handle a day when your partner’s being a whiny-assed punk (and I am here referring not to my noble self … well okay, yeah, I am) then how are you going to deal with bankruptcy, addiction, death and taxes?
In short-term relationships suffering and misery are just training for long-term relationships …

Muh … can’t figure out how to post to the right entry, I, apparently.
Sorry.

Ah well, maybe it’s a bit like horoscopes – you can make most comments fit the post subject matter with just a bit of a nip & tuck here and there.
But I agree with what you say – it’s hard to imagine life without any conflict or misery in it, so why should relationships be exempt?

I saw the surgeon the other day and he says I should now get some ‘rehabilitation’, but I can’t get an appointment with the guy he recommended for about two weeks and I don’t think I should leave it that long.
Weirdly (or not?) da finga is now more swollen and painful than before, and the ring finger and pinky are still very stiff.
I suppose on a 1-10 pain scale, da finga is about a 3, so it’s not huge pain but it is constant pain, which I’m finding very wearing. 😦
