Mmmm . . . just back from lunch.
My friend/student Paco has recommended a couple of ‘new’ tapa bars to me recently. Well, they are not new at all but they are new to me. It’s that thing, you know? You can walk past a place a thousand times and never wander inside … and then someone tells you they make the most amazing fried aubergine with salmorejo.
We tried the first place last week, just for a quick couple of tapas on our way home. Then we went back this past Wednesday (our usual tapa evening out) and sampled quite a few tapas. I commented to Nog that it seemed odd that there wasn’t much meat or fish on the menu and then I saw a couple of women next to us at the bar eating something quite gorgeous looking and asked the waiter what it was. Ha! Turned out we totally missed the back page of the menu … but we’ll be back. Anyhow, here are photos of the two visits, including all of what we ate and some photos of what other people were eating.
And today we finally got to try out La Taberna. A place that Paco insists on calling El Costal, except that’s not what the sign outside it says and it isn’t what the barmen said it was called when I asked them. But never mind. We had a totally fabulous lunch and won’t have to eat again until tomorrow. Check it out…
I envy you for being able to walk to so many fine eateries. Out in the boonies where I live, fine dining is scarce. And tapas are unheard of.
I enjoyed the photos.

And I enjoy taking them, alejna. 🙂
The other good thing is that yesterday’s massive six-tapa lunch, including three drinks each, only cost 20 euros.
Our usual tapa evening out costs about half that as we normally just go out for a light snack.
It’s always a treat when someone recommends a place I’ve never been to. Meanwhile, there are some places in Triana (over the river) that I haven’t been to for a year or more so they will also have to be revisited soon.

Yesterday we stopped at another untried place – Bodega Antonio Romero II – for a late brunchy snack. It has the same menu as the original (linked to in the post) and also a similar ‘ambientation’. These two are apparently owned by the brother who has Bodeguita Romero, which has been one of my favourite tapa bars for years.
Anyhow, that little pit-stop made shopping much more pleasant. 🙂

Lunch today at Las Golondrinas (The Swallows) in Triana. I haven’t been there since Craig – aka zoomer – was here. It was fabulous as usual. See for yourself…

While we were in Triana I got some shots of both Sol y Sombra and the original Casa Cuesta. Will have to go back for food piccys soon.
And on the way home we stopped in at Bar Campanario for another cold one and snapped a few more pics.
While I’m at it, this has become our favourite neighbourhood wine bar … ay, Maricrú!
So many bars, so little time . . .

Yesterday Nog & I checked out a new location of one of our old favourite places, Los Coloniales. The new place is just around the corner from our house (bonus!) and we tried a few things other than our ‘usuals’ in the spirit of getting some different food shots.
