Went to the Christmas market this afternoon.
We were quite lucky because it was supposed to be raining today (and also for the next 3-4 days) but it turned out to be quite a pleasant day, just a bit cloudy and even sometimes sunny.
I was very pleased to see our friend Norberto there. We met him one magical night when our friend zoomer was visiting and later I got some nice pics of Norberto in his workshop with the façade nicely redone.
To be honest, most of the stalls at the market had a lot of the same-old rather useless hippy-dippy ‘artesan’ stuff, but there were a few I rather liked. I am presently coveting one of Norberto’s serigraphs, especially one with the new matte silver frames he has started using. And I would also love to have one of the carved wooden book lamps. But I know where to find both of these guys should I ever have some extra cashola and feel like treating myself.
Anyhow, here are some photos taken during today’s visit to the Christmas market. It really was a pleasant way to spend the early afternoon. On the way home we stopped off at Fnac and bought a dvd of The Jungle Book … so now off to make a snack, open some wine and curl up on the sofa with Nog to watch it. I’m now ‘on holiday’ until next Thursday and plan on enjoying every minute of it. 🙂

Yeah, they used to build a huge one every year in the square but then started using that little archway, so now you can only get sideviews of it (though I do prefer it there). On the other side there’s usually a little waterfall running over stones and some goldfish – we actually didn’t look at the other side yesterday – will have to go back.
Through the archway you can see the Belén market in another square – the Plaza San Francisco, where they used to have public executions.

Wandering through the market is a nice way to spend a couple of hours.
The beléns (nativity scenes) are very popular here, and a number of companies and public organisations have beléns that are open to the public.

What a fun trip! Enjoyed the pic’s, makes me miss European cities again.
It’s been too long since I visited Europe. (3 months in ’85, 5 weeks in ’99.) I’m ready. The only problem is I either need a raise or for some serious help with the US$ / Euro exchange rate …

Yes, that’s far too long, Ben. You can get pretty cheap flights these days and I know of holiday apartments here that work out cheaper than hotels because you can cook ‘at home’ sometimes (also they are way more comfortable).
Drop me an email if you want any info about Barcelona, baby, or if you also plan to come here.

A couple of new photos added…
One of the Belén from the other side of the archway – unfortunately I didn’t realise till I got home that a tram plastered with lime green advertising was passing by at the crucial moment. 😡
And a night shot I took just now. The city hall building looks very pretty with all the windows outlined in small white lights. And up until about four years ago all the orange trees and those big ones in the Plaza Nueva also had pretty white fairy lights on them – then they changed them to stupid BLUE ones, which I actually find quite depressing. 😦
