First sandals, then blackbirds and now the first azahar. . .
And it’s much earlier than last year. I was walking home from a class yesterday afternoon and when I turned a corner I was suddenly snapped out of my reverie; I closed my eyes, raised my face to the sky and inhaled deeply. Then I looked around and saw them – the first orange blossoms of the year.
It always takes me by surprise and always fills me with joy.
They’re beginning to bloom here, too, as are some magnolias across the street from me.
Heady perfume, especially following the rain…

Well, our 2 inches of ice melted off today. I can go into my massage room and smell orange blossoms though, I have some orange blossom aromatherapy oil. Sigh.

the only color in my local landscape is the landmine my dog left on the tundra that is still my frozen back yard…

I just googled Murraya and found these lovely pics, nursemyra. It certainly looks the same as azahar. Does it make you smile and suddenly forget all your worries when you smell it?
Too bad you’re going to miss them, hmh. I don’t suppose freezing some for you would be any good…
The magnolias blossom a bit later than the orange trees, toby. It’s also curious that the mock orange trees blossom in late summer in Oz.
Okay, I’ll think of you when I am breathing it in, daisy, thereby doubling my pleasure! π

It is odd that some trees are already blooming here, but four magnolias across the street have been in bloom for a couple of weeks now and, while walking about Nob Hill the other day, I inhaled the unmistakable aroma of mock orange, though I didn’t see the tree(s).

What are smelly blossoms compared to more snow…
We got half an inch while I was at aqua class earlier this evening. That snow and a minor drop in temperature caused the front yard to become an ice rink. Of cause I fell and as a consequence I’ve now got ugly brown elastic bandages around my left knee and right wrist. Nothing broken as far as can feel, but painful and swollen enough.
No biking tomorrow, and I’m pondering to make a call to my landlord tomorrow, asking them to keep up the outdoor maintenace.
…and it’s unfair that some already can smell magnolias… I might be able to do that in May every year if I just travel 1000 km south (at least).
*sigh*

Hey Az,
A friend of mine just sent me this image and, for some reason, I immediately thought of you.
Download at will, if you like it.

Is that a trick question, dq?
Any particular reason why that image reminds you of me, toby?

It doesn’t remind me of you. I just thought you would get a kick out of it. No hidden meaning.

azahar, the mock orange blossom blooms several times in summer. I have a large tree in my back yard and it’s flowered three times in the last four months.

No trick question, az.
Just a general dysforic statement due to the snowfall. We’ve got about 20 cm wet heavy snow the last 24 hrs. More to come says the weather forecast…
