I know what you’re thinking – that this simply looks like yet another photo of Susan (aka Pipocas) out for lunch somewhere and has nothing to do with shopping whatsoever and besides this is Tuesday. And well, you’d be partly right. Well, okay, mostly right. Except that all this happened on Sunday. Two days ago …
As most of you already know Pip made a decision to return to the States awhile ago and time has just flown since then – hard to believe she’ll be leaving in just a couple of weeks. So this past weekend I took the opportunity to do a little “Sunday shopping” over at Pip’s, since she is having to get rid of a lot of her house stuff. It actually felt a bit sad, going through her apartment and choosing items … but after the business part of the day was over Pip decided that we should have lunch at her favourite neighbourhood tapa bar called Valparaiso.
black rice, fried camembert & squid
battered prawns and seafood-stuffed potato
Afterwards I pretty much had to get home straight away as I felt a serious NAP coming on, so we packed up some of my “new stuff” in Pip’s car and Nog met us downstairs at home to help lug it up the stairs (lugging myself up the stairs was about all I could manage). Anyhow, it was a very pleasant morning/afternoon. I’ve still got a few more things to pick up closer to Susan’s leaving date. Will be using some of it to create a “moroccan bedroom” in memory of our trip to Tangier & Asilah. Stay tuned for pics …

I am swooning at these dainties. Is “black rice” actually black or is that the seasoning?

The black rice was rice cooked in squid ink, with bits of chopped up squid in it and roasted red peppers on top. The other squid was actually chocos, lightly sautéed in olive oil, garlic and parsley. And while that red & white potato thang looked rather unappealing, it was perhaps my favourite tapa of the day.
And no, I probably shouldn’t be up now, but I fell asleep at 9.30pm and am WIDE AWAKE now…

Moroccan bedroom!? I’m intrigued…

I’m sure I mentioned it! The new headboard is (or will be) the catalyst as it will result in removing my bedroom door. Then I thought I’d put up some of those Moroccan style door beads and the posters I got in Asilah. I’ve already got the colour scheme more or less down, with oranges and blues…

Ah, you mentioned the door beads and I think was too busy wondering how the cats will react to them to catch the rest of the themed bedroom conversation…

Um, yeah, with cats I might rethink the door beads. With most cats I’ve known, they wouldn’t last long. Actually for me, the red and white thing looked the most appetizing.

You really have to stop biting your tongue, Mudhooks.
Yeah, I think the door bead idea will have to be shelved. Perhaps instead I’ll get some of those gauzy IKEA curtains for about 5 euros. Nog’s student’s have to walk past the bedroom door on their way to his “classroom”, and sometimes I’m still in bed, or back in bed … otherwise I wouldn’t mind having a doorless bedroom.
I’m trying to remember, Bea. I think it was a baked potato that was scooped out then the filling was mixed with seafood and whatnot, then stuffed back in and covered with the sauces. Either that or it was mashed potato and seafood and whatnot formed into a ball, baked and then covered with the sauces. Boy my memory sucks these days.
Miss you too, zoomer! *bearhug*
