On Monday evening I had a bit of a dodgy stomach, including a touch of diarrhea, but this does happen from time to time when you are a semi-colon. The next day I went out on that crazy lunchtime gourmet tapas tour, which I know couldn’t have helped matters. In fact, I went to bed that evening very early after having just a slice of melon thinking I’d feel better after a good night’s sleep. Yesterday I felt weakish but still made myself go to the gym because I’d missed ten days, what with going to Málaga and all. Stupid! I could only manage a bit of melon for lunch and had started to get cramping, which happened just before every “dire rear” episode. Unfortunately, I had a tapas tour booked last night and, although I really didn’t feel like I could do it, I went because a) I’m responsible like that and b) it was only a two-hour tour, so I thought I could handle it. I just nibbled on a couple of things and generally took things easy, but didn’t end up getting home until midnight – four hours later!
This morning I woke up feeling awful and have barely been able to get out of bed. I have a bit of a fever (37.4º) and the diarrhea and cramping continues, plus I feel achy all over, which gives me hope that this is just a bout of gastroenteritis and not a cancer recurrence. The symptoms are quite a bit different from that first time I went to the hospital over four years ago, because the only symptom I had then was the excruciating abdominal pain. This is bad, but not nearly as awful as that time. So I have spent today in bed except for a couple of attempts to sit up a bit. Like now. I managed to eat a little melon and some toast, but really don’t feel that hungry. And I am trying like hell not to WORRY. But if I feel the same tomorrow then I guess I’ll have to pop over to emergency. 😦
Okay, back to bed…
Hope you feel much better soon!!

Go to the doctor!
It could be a bug you picked up. Do you wash your melons with soap and water before cutting? They can be a source of Salmonella if not washed properly before cutting, especially cantaloupes.

It sounds like the classic “something I ate.” Let yourself sleep. Maybe Nog can rustle you up some mint tea.

Nog’s cat sitting over at Anna’s (her orange cat loves sleeping with him) but Jessica brought me some of that fruity electrolite drink stuff, which is going down okay.
Cannot abide mint tea *shudder*

That’s right, I forgot this was his cat-sit month. What a time to get hair balls.

Well, the “good news” is that when I retook my temp a couple of hours ago it had gone up to 38.6 (!!!) which bodes well for this being a stomach flu and not anything more sinister.

Well… today my temperature is back to normal, there is less cramping and I don’t feel so achy. But being in bed so long has caused my back to seize up, which I think is even more paingul than the cramping, so I’m trying to get up and move around more today. The fact that I’m actually able to get up and move around is a good sign though! So I don’t think I’ll go to the doctor’s yet as I am feeling a bit better than yesterday.
And on the bright side… I’ve lost three kilos!
Thanks for all your get well wishes, everybody. 🙂

Ah, that’s good news — that you’re up, I mean, not that your back hurts.
If you’re up to tottering to the gym for a little stretching or Yoga that ought to take the curse off the back. Has Loki let you keep Spike?

Totter to the gym?? It’s pretty much all I can do to totter from my bed to my desk and back again at regular intervals. But I have tried doing semi-cobras in bed, which helps a bit, and am making good use of the biofreeze. No idea where Spike is! Will have to ask Loki…

Are you better today?

A bit better. But I still can’t move far from my bed (or my bathroom!). Still achy and crampy, which is getting very tiresome. I hope tomorrow I’ll be able to get out a bit.
And now it’s back to bed!

I know you went toaster shopping, so I’m *really* hoping that means both back and intestinal junk are better. Si?

The back is fine now. I think it was suddenly spending almost 48 hours in bed that made it seize up.
But my digestive system still seems a bit fragile. There’s still diarrhea and mild cramping, but it’s not as bad as before so I hope that means it’s slowly “normalising” again. I was thinking of calling Dr Ana and asking her if she thinks I should come in and get an ultrasound or CT, but as the PET was just at the end of June maybe I’m overreacting?
