There are about 6-8 guys repaving the road next to Encarnación Market, l suppose all the way down to Plaza del Duque, as the existing stones have buckled and are uneven. Backbreaking work at any time but out in full sun when it’s 42°??? WTF? It’s been painful seeing them out there these past days. I waited until they were away on a lunch break to get a photo. After two street sweepers died from heat stroke in Madrid how can this be allowed?

I think people have forgotten that extreme weather is dangerous.

Or they know but really need the work. Most recent one from Madrid, middle-aged street sweeper on a one-month contract to make some money, and the day he died he’d swapped shifts with a fellow worker. Either they go out at midnight or they don’t go out at all.

I’m thinking more of the people who schedule work in those conditions. If it were that hot on a factory floor employers could be fined.
