Birthday Week is in full swing with a few nice meals planned with friends, but this one I must say was especially fabulous. I had seen a post on Instagram about Restaurante La Sal offering a new Tuna & Sherry tasting menu and I just knew I had to try it. And so did my friend Reyes! So we popped over this week and Charo took wonderful care of us. The menu is below, along with translations. But if you’d like to see close ups of the dishes have a look at my Instagram post.

• Tuna belly in escabeche
Manzanilla Papirus – Lustau
• Tataki tasting – descargamento, tarantelo y ventresca
Manzanilla Gabriela Oro – Barrero
• Tuna in manteca with cumin and evoo on brioche (Manu Jara)
Fino Perdido – Sánchez Romate
• Tuna loin brochette in tempura, miso sauce and bonito flakes
Palo Cortado Escondido – Sánchez Romate
• Tarantelo with wasabi breading and stir fried veg
Amontillado Olvidado – Sánchez Romate
• Trampantojo Atunero (tuna sperm and foie gras, cream sherry sauce)
East Indian Cream – Lustau
• Mojama and orange truffles with wasabi sorbet
Fino Perdido – Sánchez Romate
Enjoy, and happy b’day!

I am afraid that our last visit there was a disaster.
I actually had a tug of war over the first course plates with the waiter who tried to take them away while we were still eating them!
They had produced the main courses when we were half way through the first courses and expected us to just hand over half eaten plates.
Unsurprisingly, they wanted us out by about 11.30 so that they could go home!

That’s such a shame. I make a point of telling waiters that I’m a VERY SLOW EATER to make sure things don’t come out too fast. It’s easier with tapas as you can just order more as you go. Anyhow, this tasting menu is crazy good. 79€ including the sherries, which is quite reasonable for almadraba tuna.

I also take the precaution of telling people that we want a break between courses at a new restaurant but we have eaten there before without problems – there is a difference between serving the next course too quickly and snatching the plates out of diner’s hands!
