I’ve had this oil-filled electric radiator for over 15 years now. It was a gift when I was living in my old place with no heating in barrio Santa Cruz. I don’t use it much any more, but on extra cold days like now I pull it over to my comfy chair for some extra warmth and cosiness. Of course I then have to pull up a couple of seats for the cats (Morcilla sits on my lap). And then I have to keep stopping them from climbing on top of the thing. Honestly , the fun never stops around here. How are you keeping warm?

#ThrowbackThursday… Morcilla fast asleep on the sofa in the previous Casa Azahar. Wish I could sleep that well, or even at all. Still hoping we wonât have to move again but thereâs still no work and my landlord wonât budge on the rent. Stressful times.

Yet another Instagram “on this day” memory sent to mock me.
Well, guess I wasn’t about to meet destiny in my livingroom…

New Yearâs Eve dinner was AMAZING. Inspired by the wonderful presa al palo cortado that I’d had at Bodeguita Romero earlier in the week. It was the first time Iâd slow-cooked a whole piece of presa IbeÌrico de Bellota (pork shoulder) and so I got some cooking tips from my friends, the family at @bodeguitaromero and chef @jose_pizarro. It wasn’t that much different than making my (now famous!) carrillada al oloroso but this sauce was made with palo cortado sherry, LOTS of sweet onion, portobellos, garlic and a few sprigs of fresh thyme. I think I maybe overcooked it a bit as the sauce ended up VERY reduced and had a fair bit of meat in it, that had fallen off the shoulder. So I added more broth and sherry to it and wow, so tasty. Side dishes: roasted potatoes, courgette and spring onion, and Yorkshire puddings. What did you have?
