apartments, home, seville

So I might be moving to Pajaritos street. Pajaritos is Spanish for little birds. I kind of like the sound of that. The apartment isn’t ideal. It’s smaller for the same price and doesn’t have balconies or airconditioning. But it does have a lift and a nice rooftop terrace. And I’d be living next to my long time friend, student – and also my GP – Agustín.

Am negotiating with the landlords at the moment – a couple I’ve known for years. Should know by the end of the week.

Walked around my almost maybe new terraza this evening after my class with Agustín. It felt right, like it could be home.

sevilla, terraza

Trying to look on the bright side of getting thrown out of my home after 16 years, I’ve decided that … I WANT ONE OF THESE. A rooftop terrace, not unlike I had in my first ever home in Sevilla when I had a tiny studio apartment across the street. In fact, have made my short check list and am going to try sticking to it. I mean, if I’m going to go through all the stress and hassle of moving then I am going to make it a change for the better. And so these are the three things I want:

  • a lift
  • air conditioning
  • a terrace

I’ve actually looked at a couple of places since recovering from the shock of last Monday evening. Although I don’t have to move until March 1st I’ve decided that if I find something fabby between now and then I’ll just bugger off. In fact, I’d quite like to start the new year in a wonderful new apartment that will make leaving this place feel like a step forward.

Having had a quick look at current rental prices I am more than convinced now that I don’t have such a great deal here. Yes, I will miss my six balconies, my lovely views and all that light. But the plan is to find somewhere just as lovely except, well, better.

And now I am off to a weekend-long blogger’s conference.

What are you doing this weekend?

november, seville

Unlike when I posted this, it is now mid-month and definitely getting Novembery out there. Think it’s finally time to put away (well, throw away) the sandals and get a pair of winter shoes. Have actually worn my old red shoes a couple of times this month already, but as you can see, RAIN is coming, so I’ll need a some non-leaky ones soon. Have also been tempted a couple of times to switch on the space heaters in the living room but have so far opted for an extra sweater.

I’m kind of looking forward to winter now. I’ve noticed that they’ve almost finished putting up the Christmas lights around town, and will probably switch those on at the end of the month. Used to be they didn’t turn them on until December 8th – día de la Inmaculada – but last year they bumped it up a couple of weeks.

For my part, I’ve finally got my clothes sorted and have put all the summery ones away. Have noticed I could use some warm pj’s and a new sweater or two, but otherwise should have enough winter wear to get me through until it’s time to look for new sandals in February. As always, when I think of the future, it’s with a bit of apprehension (will I be on chemo in February? Will I be okay?) and as I get closer to the next PET scan I’m sure the “scanxiety” will reappear. But for now just looking forward to Christmas and my birthday and hope to make lots of happy memories as I go…

Remember this?

Seems like another lifetime ago, that linked-to pic. I was on chemo for the second time, Sunny was still alive… anyhow, you can see how this sweet sleepy scene reminded me of that. It made me smile and also made me miss Sunny something awful.

Some days are like that.

And here are a few snoozy outtakes…

november, Thomas Hood, Tom Waits

The last time I posted this (three years ago) it was a cold and wet November morning, but today couldn’t be more different. Bright and shiny and going up to 20º – and up to 27º by the end of the week! So it looks like I can carry on wearing sandals for awhile yet. Mind you, the last time I posted this it was three weeks into November…

Anyhow, just love this song, so thought I’d share it with you all again.

With a nod to Thomas Hood.
