Nog, nursemyra and I accidently had lunch at Yebra yesterday. We’d just meant to go for a nice long Sunday walk but after a COLD BEER pitstop we decided we were hungry (and Yebra was just around the corner). Had some lovely pork loin in sherry sauce with pinenuts and cinnamon, then tried the grilled hake with langostines and baby eels. Mmmm. . .

. . . a housecall from nursemyra!

It started off as possibly disastrous when the bus I was supposed to take out to the airport to meet nursemyra didn’t show up, so I ended up being half an hour late. But as luck would have it, her flight from Barcelona had been delayed and so five minutes after I got there I saw the girl with red streaks in her hair coming out of the arrivals exit.
An hour or so later she was all set up in her adorable apartment and we got down to the very serious business of finding a COLD BEER in an air conditioned establishment … we chose Modesto as it was just around the corner. Afterwards we took a walk through the centre of town to a supermarket so nursemyra could stock up on a few kitchen essentials and then we went up to casa az so she could meet da boyz. Nog got home shortly after that and we all went out for a few tapitas at one of our favourite places, Enrique Becerra, which we hadn’t been to since before the op.
All in all, a lovely first day together. In keeping with the light & fluffly distraction theme we ended up talking about: family, friends, our homes, blogging, leaving home, hair, tv series, Barcelona, tapas & wine, architecture, work, books, films, icecream, cats, relationships, art, coffee . . .
Gee, I wonder what we’ll talk about today. 🙂

“Perhaps one day we can have tapas together in real life!”
Thus spake Wandering Coyote in her comment on yesterday’s post. And this got me a-thinkin (always a possibly dangerous activity) which then led to wondering about organising a ‘weekend getaway’ meet here for blogfriends who either live in the EU, or are planning to be in Europe and might be able to also pop over to Sevilla, or who own their own jets . . . whatever!
Back in March 2005 I organised a similar meet for h2g2 friends and it was a lot of fun. Some had met in person before and others hadn’t, and we a great time together.
So the initial plan is basically to find a weekend that suits enough people to make this a viable and attractive idea. Between 6-10 people seems to be a good number and my first thought about a date is sometime around the end of September. It’s usually still quite warm then and flights should also be cheaper. Thursday evening to Sunday would be ideal if people are able take a Friday off work.
I’ve just set up a page for this. First of all, people who are interested can vote on a date and sign up – even just as being interested in the idea. At the end of May we’ll go with the most popular date and then those who definitely want to/are able to come can confirm their attendance.
After that we can talk more about accommodation. There are lots of options, from cheap & cheerful pensions with shared bathrooms to holiday apartments and hotels.
And so this post is just to put forward the idea and wait for some feedback. I can think of quite a few people that I’d really enjoy meeting in person, can’t you? And hey – it’s Sevilla! I’ve never met anyone who didn’t totally love being here.

As I mentioned over here, this was quite the spontaneous trip, which was also suddenly extended from an overnight stay to three nights when I found a charming little inn that had a special 3-night offer going. Pipocas and her husband Chucky (not his real name 😉 ) really made this trip special by taking Nog & me out for lunch every day and also driving us to places near Tavira that we would have never seen otherwise.
As Chucky is Portuguese he ‘did the honours’ at mealtimes, ordering all the food and drink so that we often didn’t know what was coming until it showed up at the table. This was quite a refreshing change for me since I’m usually the one doing this for friends visiting Sevilla. It was nice to be on the receiving end for a change and be totally taken care of.
