On Tuesday afternoons between 1-5 pm the Casa de Pilatos (House of Pilate) has free admission. So after spending a lovely couple of hours this morning with Pipocas and the Kidlet – finally back from holidays – I met Nog to have a wander around and take a few photos, especially of the fabulous azulejos (ceramic tiles) …

. . . what sort of plant this is?

The day before my last chemo session I went back to the viveros that Nog & I had seen while out for our Sunday snack – at the time we were on the rental bikes and had no way of carrying 6 plants home. I’d been looking for some sort of sun-loving flowering plant to replace the gitanillas that I used to have (which all died from a moth infestation) and the woman at the viveros showed me these guys. And yes, she did tell me what they were called, which I promptly forgot, but I think it started with a ‘B’. I’m not sure what a viveros is called in English – perhaps a garden centre? A nursery? This one I went to was basically a huge greenhousy type garden with tons of cats all over the place.

Anyhow, finally got my new mystery plants repotted and I think they look very nice. There are four white ones on the two living room balconies (in blue pots) and on the bathroom balcony one yellow and one orange (in plain clay pots). And the best part was that they only cost 1 euro each!

sunday snack

Across the street from the rental bike station.

It was another scorcher today. The original plan had been to get up early and go out in the morning while it was still coolish. And well, although I was up early to feed the cats at 7, after checking blogs, email and twitter, I went back to bed around 8.45. To my surprise I actually fell asleep again until about 10.30, which felt great. So after having coffee and catching up on my Scrabble games it was well after noon before Nog and I went out for a bike ride.

Needing a destination – and since Nog wanted to take me out for my weekly tapa treat – we decided to go on a hunt for a curious little restaurant/bar we had come across on one of our Sunday walks a few months ago. The only thing we remembered about it was that it was near the Alameda and it was called Cruji Pollo (Crispy Chicken). After parking the rental bikes in the general area and walking down several little side streets we finally found it. . .

watermarks

A couple of days ago I came across a kind of travel/lifestyle website and saw that someone had uploaded some photos from my tapas blog without crediting them or linking back. Which reminded me of something I’ve been thinking of doing for awhile now, which is to start watermarking my photos.

I’ve been looking around for some free (or cheap) watermarking tools or software. The one shown above is a free online watermark tool but, although I can watermark photos in batches with it, afterwards I have to copy each photo to my computer individually, which is a lot of work. Especially as I want to replace ALL the pics on my tapa blog with watermarked ones.

Any suggestions?

the alcázar

aka the royal palace and gardens

The Alcázar (pronounced al-KA-thar ) is about a three-minute walk from casa az. It is also free to residents of Sevilla. I only have to show my ID card and don’t have to pay the 7 euro entrance fee. And yet I can’t even remember the last time I was there. To remedy this shameful situation, Nog and I decided to spend the morning at the Alcázar and it was lovely, especially as there weren’t as many tourists as usual. And so I’m planning to make this a weekly outing. I mean, it’s crazy not to.

I also took some photos and started a couple of new Fotki albums. One for the Alcázar and a separate one for the fabulous ceramic tiles (azulejos). Here are the links – I recommend the slideshow option as the colours show up really well against the black background. Below the links is a bit of a sneak preview. . .
