So the new oven arrived today! It’s a bit of a wonky fit and is a pretty basic model, but hey, it has more than one temperature and the grill works. So definitely a step up from the old one. Of course the landlady refused to pay for it, saying her usual “you can take it with you when you go!”. But still worth it, I think, especially after agreeing with a new rent deal until February 2018. It also means I’ll be able to properly cook a kick-ass Christmas Eve dinner. Stay tuned…

On my way home I stumbled across the opening party for Un Gato En Bicicleta. For years this alternative bookshop has been going strong in calle Regina, but they have now moved to larger premises (in my street!) and are going to also include a cafĂ©/bar. At least it won’t be – I hope – another late night bar…

A few months ago I saw this sofa in the window of El Corte InglĂ©s and I WANTED IT. I mean, it’s nothing terribly exciting, but I love its simplicity and clean lines. But I also know that no soft furnishings would ever last around here. What’s weird is that I have never actually wanted a sofa before, precisely for this reason. At present an old IKEA sofa bed still serves in the living room, along with a second-hand arm chair, both of which are covered in cotton throws (as is my wheelie office chair). And in spite of being covered they are all ripped to shreds.
Anyhow, I was walking by El Corte Inglés again the other day and saw that my dream sofa has a matching chair!!! Waaaah!
