night lights

I used to make such a big deal about going to SEE THE LIGHTS. In fact it used to be one of my favourite things. But these past few years I’ve got out of the habit of going out at night unless I’m working. So I just managed to snap this pic on my way to pick up clients… more to come. I hope.

pulleys

Out for a walk this afternoon and noticed for the first time that the gables on one side of The House of My Dreams have these pulleys over the windows. It was suggested that they were used for lifting furniture up to the top floor, except you really couldn’t fit much through those windows. Also, although those rooms are clearly apartments now, back then they were probably used for storage (?) or servants quarters (??). This got me wondering about the history of this house, which is massive. Who was it built for? And most importantly, WHY did they install pulleys over those windows. Enquiring minds want to know.

RAIN

I mean, FINALLY. And man, it’s been raining up a storm. Like this one I got caught out in today on a lunchtime Tapas Tour. This screen grab doesn’t really do the experience justice – you can see the short vid over here… Azahar Instagram.

seriously… WHY?

seriously why

During any particularly cold winter here we still usually get up to 15-17º during the day and never go below freezing overnight. Meanwhile we are in the midst of a serious drought and energy crisis, with the local government asking residents to cut back on their water and electricity usage. Heck, they are even restricting the Christmas lights to 6-11 pm. BUT they have installed not one but TWO outdoor ice skating rinks in the city for the holiday season. What the actual…??? Imagine the cost of maintaining these two completely unnecessary installations. Why the hell should there be ice skating in the south of Spain? Why is our city council adopting this completely foreign concept… and who even knows how to ice skate here? This doesn’t belong here, especially now. Honestly, the mind reels.

lights on

Christmas streets lights were turned on last night in Sevilla.
I haven’t seen them yet so this will have to do for now.
