girls night out
Alejna & Janet at casa az

Long-time blog friend Alejna of collecting tokens (I think we met over at Raincoaster’s) is in town this week, with her mother and husband and two gorgeous kidlets. On Friday we decided to have a girls night out and I took Alejna & Janet on a wee tapas tour, to three quite different places. First stop was El Rinconcillo, the oldest bar in Sevilla, to sample the best “espinacas con garbanzos” along with a glass of manzanilla sherry. Then on to Modesto so that Alejna could try some “calamares del campo” (aka “land squid” – bit of a private joke). And finally we stopped off at La Sal for some of the best tuna in town…

the cous steve sara the cous nog az

Ever since Susan & I went to Morocco in Febuary we have been all about the cous. Though attempts to find couscous as good as we had in Tangier after we got back proved fruitless. We’ve both even tried making it at home and sharing our experiences – as much as possible from across the pond. And so I’m sure she will be a wee bit envious when she sees the gorgeous Moroccan lunch (including couscous!) that Sara treated us to at As-Sawirah yesterday …

ebook

Ever since my Twitter buddy WeeRascal showed up here last spring with most of Sevilla Tapas printed out in his briefcase I’ve been thinking about publishing a small tapas guidebook. And more recently I’ve been thinking that the easiest and cheapest way to start off would be in e-book form. One smallish obstacle … I have no idea how to even start doing this.

What I have found out is that I can write my e-book as a PDF, which meant looking for some free software, and I have  since downloaded OpenOffice.org, though I’m told there are lots of other free applications that will turn almost any document into a PDF.  And so I am going to spend this weekend getting familiar with OpenOffice.

Meanwhile, if anyone out there can offer me any help, advice, info – including on how to publish once I get the book written – I would greatly appreciate it. Oh, and in the simplest terms possible please. If you talk in “the nerd-person” I am sure to get lost.

Saturday morning errands are one of my favourite things. And in the HEAT of summer (and yes, it is still summer and still HOT here) it is always best to get out early in order to get errands done. Which is what Nog & I attempted to do yesterday but then got waylaid by a neighbourhood scandal. Apparently someone in our very own building has been dropping their garbage from their balcony, and leaving it to lie where it may. Or so I was told. Upon further investigation – calling all tenants downstairs for an emergency meeting – it seemed that nobody was guilty. But by the time we all agreed to agree on this over an hour had passed and it was already HOT.

And so our Saturday errands (shown above) ended up something like this …

orange harvest

Today’s Photohunter theme is “orange”.

The pre-digital camera pic above shows the orange trees in my street being harvested. And below is a photo of my very orange bedroom (before I got the new headboard). The colour orange is also quite prevalent on this blog, as you have probably noticed. And also on my azahar and Sevilla Tapas blogs, and my two Twitter accounts. It’s my favourite happy colour to look at (favourite happy colour to wear is red), and I have it on good authority that it’s a really good colour to use for getting people to purchase items online. Then there is my online name, which is Spanish for orange blossom, though the flowers are actually white and look like this. Apparently my love is not orange, but the colour orange I am is … well, orange. Take the quiz…

Quiz: What Colour Orange Are You?
