This is for serious Loki fans only (you know who you are) – the string game! Loki first toy was an old shoe string, which the woman from the cat shelter put in with his blanky the day he moved in. Since then he’s had a variety of different strings and cords to play with. He also likes ping pong and rubber balls, but seems to prefer toys that he can drag around the house in his mouth. At first I tried getting him to chase balls by tossing them up the stairs, but they went too fast for him to have much fun with. Then I tried throwing the string…

Remember Ghost Cat?

It used to be one of Loki’s favourite games at the old casa az, and so he was pleased to discover that the proximity of the balcony window to the bed here allowed for a slightly different version. And yes, he has chewed huge holes in this new pair of curtains too…

Meanwhile, Azar prefers less destructive pastimes such as sitting on the corner of the bed in front of the balcony doors after breakfast and enjoying the morning air. But this morning Azar’s peaceful interlude was interrupted by Ghost Cat, who suddenly appeared out of nowhere. He lay still for several moments thinking he was Completely Invisible, but the contented flicking back and forth of Azar’s tail proved too much for Ghost Cat and he eventually gave himself away.

Azar was not amused.

For ages I would just roll my eyes at all the Angry Birds mentions on Twitter and elsewhere around the internets and feel smug that I was above such nonsense, but then one day curiosity got the better of me and  I downloaded the free version of the Original Angry Birds and tried it out. And then I saw they had a free version of Angry Birds Rio and thought I’d try that one too. Then today I actually PAID FOR a seasonal version. Well, it was all of 79 cents, but I knew then and there that I was hooked.

I’m not even that good at it, which was proved beyond doubt the other night when I let the seven-year-old boy in my Sevilla Tapas Tour group play Rio … he not only got through to the last levels but upped “my” scores considerably. He then proceeded to complete level 5 on Original Angry Birds in no time flat. I was still struggling to finish level 3. And if none of this means anything to you then consider yourselves lucky.

Of course now I really need an iPad because I also got Agustín hooked and I have to say that after playing Angry Birds on his iPad it’s very hard going back to the small screen.

It was a perfect Christmas weekend. Quite rainy, but that made it feel even cosier to stay in and just, well, be cosy. Nog and I set up the “gaming table” on Christmas Eve … with chess, backgammon and scrabble. And we played all three whenever the mood struck. And of course I watched my two favourite Christmas films, along with some other stuff on TV & DVD, and did some reading. Lots of amazing food was consumed, along with plenty of cava and wine. And we also got out for a few walks in between rain storms. All in all, a very happy Christmas indeed. Oh, and there were prezzies too.

Isn’t this great? It’s a present that Pipocas brought me back from the States. I’m planning on taking it with me on all future hospital visits, especially for chemo days and during my hospital stay after surgery. Unlike reading or watching a dvd, it’s something I can do with the friend who is with me.

It’s a great design – very compact (just folds over and zips up in its own carrying case), has clip-in letters, and the little tile trays also can be stored with the tiles in them so you can continue a game whenever you like.

Of course, Pipocas might regret giving me this when I whup her sorry scrabble butt next time we’re hanging out in the oncology waiting room … 😉
