Well, it had to happen eventually. But I guess mid-November isn’t a bad date to have to start wearing tights and shoes again (sandal weather started back in March…). That’s nine happy feet months! Next I’ll be having to wear a coat…

Nope, I didn’t name these. Camper did. Boots called Agatha (which is also the name of one of Sledpress‘s cats). Anyhow, I went out for a walk with no destination in mind (always dangerous) and decided to look in a few shoe shops since Winter is Coming (though you wouldn’t know it by the recent 30º temps). What I had in mind was a simple pair of flat black slip-ons and somehow ended up with these. I think I love them.

Last summer I bought my first pair of Skechers in Málaga, thinking they’d be good for the gym and long walks. Well, I ended up wearing them almost every day during the autumn and winter, they are just so damn comfy. They were also the only shoes I could get on my swollen feet after the incident. But as you can imagine, after wearing them practically non-stop for several months, they were starting to look, well, like crap. So I got online and bought another pair just the same. Being new, at first they almost hurt my sad feet when I put them on, but as they are elastic on the sides, they actually work like a support bandage and make walking easier. Which will be perfect for going to Málaga mañana.
Now I’m thinking of getting another pair. Saw these on Amazon today and thought that – although far from elegant – they were kinda cute and would work with skirts. Honestly, walking in these shoes is like getting a constant foot massage. And I really need that now. Tomorrow I’m going to try on my Mephisto sandals and see if they still fit (feet are still a bit swollen). It was a month ago today that I fell. I was starting to feel desperate – and a bit scared – about this, but this evening one of my clients happened to be a physiotherapist and said it wasn’t unusual for this sort of soft tissue pain to last as long as six weeks. She also said to keep walking as long as the discomfort was tolerable. Good advice!

So today I was out having a nice market pre-lunch snack with my friends Fred and Arpy, after which I decided to have a look around the shops thinking I might find a good deal on sandals (turned out the fab red suede Mephistos I ordered online in April were sold out and I have been making do with last year’s and the previous year’s sandals).
Instead I found these! Skechers Gowalks. Flexible, breathable, washable walking shoes. And on sale too. So I slipped this pair on and oh wow… super comfy. And so I bought them thinking they’ll not only be great for wearing to the gym but also for those morning walks I keep telling myself I’m going to start doing. Also, they’re casual and cute enough to just wear day-to-day. I’m sure I can find these in Sevilla too (or online) and so I think I’ll look for a more solid style for winter, though these should be good at least until the end of November. Now I think I should stop shopping…

Every year it’s the same story, trying to find a pair of comfortable winter shoes. The very best winter shoes I ever bought were a pair of red Campers about 8 years ago. I am still wearing them (they have become my rainy day, don’t-care-if-they-get-wet shoes). But the truth is that they are totally falling apart. Subsequent Campers I’ve bought have turned out to be less than comfortable, though I think I should have clued in earlier to the fact that I should have been buying them a size bigger if I wanted to wear them with socks. Duh.
And so! These are some Clarks I found the other day. I think I would have preferred them in red but they weren’t in stock. Though in person the “Clarks red” (seen on other models) is a dull burgundy and not like the colour in this photo. I think these ones will soon take the place of my favourite old Campers. And maybe one day I’ll finally break in the other two pair that are collecting dust since I hardly ever wear skirts with tights anymore. Very odd having black footwear though…
That’s pretty much me set up for winter wear. How about you?
