So what are you doing this summer?
Now that summer is officially here (yes, I know I’m a few days late). Any trips planned? Special events or projects?
My ‘summer holiday’ was Lisbon … don’t think Nog and I will be travelling anywhere else for awhile, though we might take a day trip or two between now and September.
I’m planning to take advantage of there being next to nobody at the gym so I can use the fitness room as much as I want to in the mornings. I also want to do some sewing and think about a silk collection for the clothing biz. Otherwise and that, I want to read a lot and go out more at night when it’s coolish. Oh, and also paint the hallways … the whole flat could do with repainting but the hallways are especially needy.
Since I’ll have next to no work (and next to no income) it’ll be all about how to best spend my time without spending money, and feeling rested and satisfied when the ‘new year’ rolls round again. And so I’m looking for a little inspiration.
The weather here hasn’t been so good over the past few weeks – a typical Irish summer I’m afraid..
I’m finishing my thesis at the moment, then starting a new job in the next few weeks. I’ve also got a planned trip with some of my kids to France (Brittany).

I’ve just landed a job teaching at a summer camp/day school for July, but August is free time-wise. Might do some of those little jobs about the place that I’ve been putting off for mumblety-mumble weeks/months/years.

Thesis, thesis, bl**dy thesis…
No vacation for me until late October or so. *sigh* Might take a few days off in mid-August when the Noble Knight visits the Far North.
Wouldn’t mind a loooong procrastination at an interesting place and then return and find the thesis completed and me with some extra letters after my name…

I’m joining a management consulting company. It’s related to my thesis too. A rear-guard attempt to salvage a career for myself! 🙂

I have two weddings to go to at the beginning of August, both in the same area north of here, so I’ll be gone just over 10 days. Both of the weddings are for dear friends, so I’m looking forward to it very much. Other than that, read, write…try to stay cool…hike…

Hmm. This summer I will be mostly looking forward to Autumn.

No hols for the Teuchters this year – on account of spending all our sponduliks on the refurb.
Happened to catch a super wee programme on telly the other night about Andalucia – so we relived our visit to Sevilla and got to see some of Granada, the Alhambra and Cordoba. It served to whet my appetite even further for a return visit at some point.
Teuchter Mater is about to honour the Towers with a visit and I will be taking her to Sissinghurst Gardens in Kent, Rosemoor Gardens in Devon and the Hampton Court Flower Show.
The more observant of you will detect a common theme here 😛

Um, something to do with flowers?
We did the ‘going out at night’ thing last night, celebrating Nog’s new job by going for tapas around 10.30 – our first meal out since Lisbon. And it really was lovely walking home afterwards around midnight. The temperature was perfect, there were lots of people in the squares and in the streets.
So I think a short stroll before bed is going to become a nice summer habit.

I am going to spend a week in Rocky Mountain National Park with my father,my brother and my brother’s wife. We are camping at a National Forest campground called Olive Ridge, which is just outside of the park boundaries. We will be hiking up several peaks in the park. The most notable goal of this expedition is to help my father, who is 82 years old, achieve his goal of making it to the summit of Meeker Peak. While this is not the highest peak in the park (Longs Peak is, by the way), it has symbolic significance to him because it was the first one he climbed when he first went to Colorado as a young teenager. He has summitted on Meeker something like 8 times, I believe. Once was when my older sister was 18 months old, he and my mtoher carried her up there. He also summitted On His Birthday when he was 40. This isn’t such a big deal until you realize that his birthday is Feb. 22, and he and his two friends had to snow shoe and cross country ski to make it up there. Anyway, I think he wants to stand on top of it one more time before he dies, and Ted and I are determined to try to make this happen this summer. Wish us luck! I leave for this trip the 20th of July.
Otherwise, we are trying to keep from gong broke this summer. Jim’s teeth are a big problem and we just paid a small fortune for him to have a root canal, we still have to fork out another small fortune for the restoration work. There are holes in his mouth that ought to be filled with a partial plate.
Oh yes. There are floor beams under the house that have dry rot that need to be replaced. We are still doing repairs to fences from the ice storm.
If anyone has a rich uncle that is dying that they’d like to share, I’d love to hear from them!
