Some of you may recall that back in January I went to my first AWC luncheon – and last month to my second one – at which time I became an official AWC member.
Well, last night there was a ‘new members tapas night’ scheduled and so Pipocas and I thought we should drop in since we are, in fact, new members. We also decided it would be a good idea to meet for pre-drink drinks before the event just in case of … well, whatever. Then awhile later – where had the time gone? – I got a call from Rena (one of the AWC directors) while Pipocas and I were on our second pre-drink drink asking if we were still coming, so we high-tailed it over to the tapas bar that had been chosen for this event, just up the street…
It turned out that other than the welcoming committee and a couple of other people we were the only ones who showed up. But did that stop us from having a fabulous time? HELL NO. We ordered a few tapas and several bottles of wine and got to know each other for a couple of very pleasant hours. And after the bar shut down three of us diehards (who shall remain nameless, well, except for me) thought it would be a good idea to have just one more at Bar Flaherty …
It was such an excellent idea that we ended up closing the Irish pub (hell, haven’t done that since Blues first came to town) and I am now typing this at 4.30am. And so there is no way no day I’m gonna make it to my 9 o’clock class with Carmen. Damn.
Except I had such a wonderful time and met some very lovely people. And I’m pretty sure Carmen will understand.
Got a lot of good ideas tonight … more on that later (if I remember them). Gosh, I am so happy I joined the AWC. First of all because that’s where I met Pipocas, but it’s also looking like way more than a ‘ladies who lunch’ thing and I’ve been asked to become more involved and maybe organise some events that I think people might be interested in. And the conversations tonight were so interesting, as were the new people I met.
Now if I can just keep them from leading me astray on ‘school nights’ …
Wow,
I was going to revise my earlier comment here and say you are now among ladies who get lunched, but really az: how can you write so coherently after drinking all night? I’d be posting squiggles by then.

Pretty impressive, eh? Even the links work.
Actually, I just got up now and thought “what the hell did I write in that post?” and asked Nog to bring me my laptop (I’m still in bed with a strong cup of coffee, a litre of mineral water and some mango juice).
One thing I wasn’t so clever about was sending the long text message I wrote to Carmen at 3.30am explaining that I couldn’t give the class today at 9 o’clock – I just checked my phone and it wasn’t there. Shit.
Don’t think I’ll be making it to pilates class either …

Nothing a blood transfusion couldn’t fix, nursemyra.
It’s actually been a really long time since I’ve had a hangover this bad… definitely getting too old for this sort of thing.
Maybe I can still make the 2.30 pilates class. If I tried bending over now I’d never get up again.

Just for the record, I was not among the diehards and left at a reasonable hour of 1 am. Hah! At that point you still had good judgement because you told me to go home and take a taxi (both excellent suggestions which I may not have thought on my own considering I was somewhat incapacitated, thank you very much).
Nevertheless, I was impressed how those other two nameless ladies dragged you out to Flaherty.

I kinda wish I’d also sent myself home (but only kinda…)
Yes, they who shall not be named are certainly very persuasive. And one of them got hit on by a slightly drunken but inoffensive Norwegian (who was politely rebuffed), which proved to be quite a bonus as when we went to pay our tab we discovered that he and his friends had paid for all our drinks. 🙂
I think I was a bit optimistic about making it to the 2.30 pilates class as that’s what time it is now and I’ve only just finally managed to drag myself out of bed.
Time to eat some serious carbs and watch a couple episodes of Six Feet Under…

Wow, Flaherty’s looks like a great pub.
Interesting that you’ve joined a club. I’ve been considering joining the “laid back lodge” of the oldest club in California, the International Order of Odd Fellows. I met up with them in their San Francisco hall last Thursday and had a wonderful time. Lots of history buffs there.
Cheers!

so glad you’ve rediscovered the party girl within! sounds like big, big fun!

It was long ago I could stay up late and drink wine at the same time 🙂
Nowadays it’s tea and early nights …

You’re cracking me up. I’ve been going to bed early lately. I mean, I come home, have a little dinner, a glass or two of wine or beer, then off to bed, about 8:30 or 9 some nights. Read a bit, then off to sleep.
When you crash at 4:30 AM your time, it’s probably not that far off when I go down for the count here in CA …

This is so cosmic, Ben … I was just over reading your blog and I saw there was a comment here – and it was from you! 🙂
Well, this afternoon I was out with hmh and Jim and my student/friend AgustiÃn (aka guspemar) for lunch and MUCH wine and food was consumed over at Becerra. Poor Nog had to work but we’ll be going out for lunch again tomorrow…
I had been planning on doing a serious detox after my friends leave, but of course next week is the feria de abril and I have a few invitations to private casetas …
