Hey, raincoaster, I’m leaving for Sevilla in 10 days, is there anything you want to send along to Az and Nog? (Keep in mind I’m traveling with carry-on only).
I think 2010 will be a good kitten year. 🙂 Also a good Az year.
Good idea. Az, what do you want? Other than that Toshiba laptop, which is out of my budget. Maple Syrup? Bryan Adams albums? Matching tops and bottoms made out of polarfleece (the “Vancouver pantsuit”)? Canadian Tire money?
Gosh I hadn’t realised Vancouver was such a world fashion center! Though I’m not sure I understand what tire money is – money for when you feel tired? For when you’re tired of Canada? For buying Canadian tires for one’s automobile?
It turns out that I got my first “real job” at Canadian Tire when I was 15 and had just left home. I was a cashier and worked there two evenings a week and Saturdays in order to put myself through highschool. I stayed on there a couple of years and was even promoted to the “Courtesy Desk”. It was an okay job, my boss was a nice guy, but I ended up coming home smelling of tires all the time. Canadian Tire money looks a bit like Monopoly money, and you can only spend it at CT. Kind of like discount vouchers given for every however many dollars you spend.
I certainly hope I’ll need a 2010 refill too. But the whole kitten thing is because taking in a kitten is a 15-20 year commitment, and one that I can’t honestly make right now. Though probably anybody in their fifties would be in a similar predicament. Kind of like taking out a mortgage after 50. Like, why?
I can’t think of anything I need from Van, but maybe Rain could make use of our old digital camera? It just needs two new rechargable batteries, otherwise it works just fine.
I beg to differ, az…there are businesses in Toronto (at a minimum) that take Crappy Tire money at par on special days of the week. I once paid for a hamburger on a Wednesday at a burger joint in North York.
And we’re truly Canadian…we don’t collect airmiles on our credit card, we collect Canadian Tire money! 🙂
I bow to your more up-to-date knowledge, Lori. I haven’t lived in Canada since 1990 and probably haven’t set foot in a Canadian Tire store since I worked there. Though now that you mention it, I think I have heard of CT money being used elsewhere.
Way to go on being positive, az! I suspect that you may need the 2010 insert too. At least, that’s what I’m putting my energy towards. As far as the kitten goes, my Dad adopted two last year — and he is 82. Of course, I did promise him faithfully that I would give them a home if he died before they did. Otherwise, I don’t think he would have done it.
Crappy Tire money is also highly collectible…. AND features in a terrific short film called “Redeemable in Merchandise” about a woman who discovers her cheap husband who would never let her spend money on anything, even the Canadian Tire money, is having an affair decides to cash in the giant stash of Canadian Tire dollars he has been hording since 1950-something…
An old lady in Long Beach had a nice cat named Katie. The old lady was in Home Depot a couple of years ago. Somebody swung a board around and clocked her in the back of the head and she died right there and then.
Her neighbor took the cat to my mother, who needed a cat but didn’t know it.
The neighbor said later, “I don’t even think the cat knew she switched old ladies.”
Mom and Katie are very happy with each other.
If you want another cat, get it. If it’s a good cat (and why wouldn’t it be?), someone will take care of it if you can’t. And it may be of real value to you in terms of cuddling and purring and generally making you feel better.
I heard there’s a guy in Uganda or somewhere who collects bills from all the tourists who go buy, so he’s got something like their national flag, only it’s money. Canada is proudly represented in his collection by Canadian Tire money.
And I do have a digital camera, but it’s more than ten years old and incredibly crappy. I’ve also got a loaner phone from Fearless City which is great, but I have to give it back next Wednesday, alas. Thanks so much for the offer!
Well, Nog and I had been talking about getting a kitten before I got sick, and one had even shown up for us in June (batch of kittehs born in Bosco’s grandmother’s back yard) but I didn’t think it was a good time, right after the first op. Getting one now would feel kind of irresponsible, I think.
The only thing about the camera is that the viewing screen is a bit small, Rain. But unlike my new one it also has a normal view-finder that you can look through. A loaner phone? Mobile or landline? I’ve got a couple of extra landline ones over here…
Speaking of Canadian stores, I came across a site dedicated to Towers/Bonimart. As you may recall, az, I used to work at the Carlaw store (the one where the episodes of Degrassi Jr. High were filmed). I also worked at the store on Lawrence Ave. E. and there are ever so many people who worked at the same store who have posted comments. Unfortunately, I can’t recall any of the names of people I worked with.
Good GRAVY, that took me back, though! Those horrible red polyester uniforms!
Who knows, you might need a 2010 refill, or more. Hugs.

Good for you. There will be plenty of kittens in 2010 if you need one.
