The other day I saw that there was a chick flick on at the cinema – in English! – and asked Pipocas if she wanted to see it. So we made plans to go on Saturday (last night). Then it occurred to me that not only was I going out to the cinema (something I don’t think I’ve done since before my first operation last May) but I was also going out on a Saturday night and that it was going to be a girls’ night out…
The plan was to meet in the Plaza Nueva and walk to the cinema from there. I found Pip at the rental bike station unable to find a ‘parking space’ and told her not to worry as we’d be passing two more stations on the way and surely there would be a spot to leave the bike … wrong! So she ended up having to lock it up outside the cinema (with the meter running) while we watched the film – Then She Found Me.
The first thing both Pip & I thought when the movie started was that Helen Hunt seriously needed to put on a few pounds. In fact, she looked awful; so gaunt and haggard that she actually looked older than Bette Midler, who was supposed to be her mother. Anyhow, the film was okay … it was like all the elements were there for a much better film but somehow it never really took off. Oh well …
After picking up the bike again (resigned to have it as our constant companion for the duration of the evening) we stopped at Tre Fratelli for a “snack” that turned out to be quite substantial. And delicious. And after several glasses of wine we ended up closing the joint. I don’t know how Pip & I always end up with so much to talk about, but it’s like a starting pistol goes off whenever we meet up and we’re off and chatting non-stop until it’s time to say hasta luego. Which we finally did around half past midnight in front of the cathedral. I was a bit concerned about her “drinking & riding” but reckoned the brisk walk from the restaurant in the freezing cold must have sobered her up enough to get home safely.
I came home to find Nog tucked up in bed, but he had very thoughtfully turned on the heater in my room and had left a bottle of water on the night table. And so after a bit of blogging and reading, I finally got to sleep around 2.30, tired but content.
Hey Pip, we oughtta do this more often! 🙂
This was our after-movie “snack”…

mozzerella, tomato & basil salad
bruschetta
50/50 pizza
(prawn & spinach, sausage & peppers)

Sounds like fun. I don’ t think I’ve ever heard of that movie. I was supposed to go out with a friend last night too but it snowed/sleeted here, Chris canceled his “guy’s” night, and we ended up staying home, enjoying some lamb stew.

Staying at home with lamb stew sounds good too, Kim. Which reminds me that I should make lamb stew again – I’ve only done it once before and it was amazing.
It was almost tempting to stay home because it was soooo cold out and right before I left the house it started to rain. But I had been so looking forward to going out at night (really, it’s been months!) that there was no way I wanted to back out. And I’m very glad I didn’t.

Sounds great. I haven’t done anything like that in…a while…myself.
I have very little idea what movies are even in theaters right now. Milk is the one I’ve heard most about. I hadn’t heard of the one you saw, but it doesn’t sound like I should go out of my way for it.

Sounds like you had a wonderful time, the food looks delicious. I haven’t been on a girls night out since I was in college. The last time I went to a movie theatre my feet stuck to the floor and the kids in the back were throwing Skittles all over and the management didn’t seem to care. Haven’t noticed that there are all than many first run movies I care to see anyway. We tend to watch Turner Classic Movies channel. The last time we rented a movie was at least two years ago. What a couple of fuddy duddies.

The food looks scrummy! Is it all that good in Spain?
I never used to be into girls’ nights out but recently (cos I’m getting older?) I love ’em. A bunch of us went to see Mamma Mia when it came out and had a fab time.
Went with a friend and her family to see Australia last week (the movie not the country). Not a bad film – a bit long but, on the other hand, all the more time to look at Hugh Jackman…sigh

I’d like to see Milk too, alejna. As usual, the problem here is that most films are dubbed and I refuse to watch dubbed films. There is only one cinema here that shows films in original version, so there isn’t much of a selection.
“Is it all that good in Spain?”
Yep. So when will you be visiting, Puddock?
