All settled in now and really feeling at home. This is a photo of my first sunset in Zahara, as seen from the terrace. Agustín & Elena have a great place here with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, nice living/dining area and – the best part – a terrace that is almost as big as the apartment! Except for mid to late afternoons when it’s too hot, I can pretty much live out here. It’s especially nice for breakfast. Having my coffee out here while checking email, twitter and blogs and looking out at the sea is pretty much a dream come true.
My companion Mini – I keep telling her we are just two fat old broads at the beach – is sweet, despite having to mop up after her almost constantly. Poor old girl. I’ve known her since she was a pup and now that she is 14 it’s a bit sad to see her having such a hard time. And that Agustín! Before they left on Friday he slipped me another “vacation donation” trying to pretend it was in case Mini needed anything, but then said I should just go out and have a few nice meals on him. And so I shall – just watch me! 🙂

Beautiful spot, Az! I’m so glad you decided to go.

Yep, it really is gorgeous here. The apartment building is part of an urbanización called Plata de Mar. There are quite a few along this part of the coast, all with their own swimming pools, tennis courts, lawns (weird) and direct access to the beach. I’m one of the lucky ones with a lovely sea view.
So now you can picture me sitting outside at that wooden table with my french press coffee and enjoying the fresh morning air and the sea view … which is exactly what I’m doing now.
Mini is out here with me and seems to be enjoying the fresh air too, though it’s hard to tell with her as most of the time she just looks kind of stunned. Mornings are quite an adventure as I have to search the whole apartment for pee puddles before I step in them (ewww). I also have to pill her morning and evening, as well as clean her eyes and give her eye drops. I just hope she doesn’t kick the bucket while Agustín & Elena are away!
I probably won’t walk into the village until tomorrow, as nothing will be open there today. Guillermo (A’s friend who has an apt in the building next door) called yesterday to say if I needed anything to just give him or Pepe (his partner) a call. He also told me that the village is at least a half-hour walk (A had told me 20 minutes – ha) but there is a nice beach walk there, so I won’t have to go the boring route by the road. It’s actually a comfort knowing they are there. And another ex-student (and friend of A’s) Paloma is also supposed to be here this week. I don’t really need to go into the village as there are plenty of nice bars/restaurants around here, plus a small supermarket and a bakery, but it’ll make a change and also give me a bit of exercise.
Speaking of which, it’s almost time for me to wander down to the beach and bathe my feet in the Atlantic…

I wish you were here too, Nag! This being on holiday alone thing is fine most of the time, but every now and then I want to be able to turn to the person next to me and say “wow, look at that!”, or be able to share a meal. Well, just share in general.
I’m not exactly lonely, just sometimes not quite sure what to do with myself. But it’s early days yet – still a whole week to go! I’m sure I’ll get the hang of it by then, but there’s nothing I can do about missing my cats.
As you know, I’m a cat person too, nursemyra. And if I hadn’t known Mini most of her life I’m not sure how I’d feel with this geriatric version of her. Because I can still see the young pup in her and remember when Agustín and I would play “Super Mini” during class as she leapt from his lap to mine and back again. It did kind of tug on my heart strings earlier today when I got back from my beach walk and found her waiting at the door looking all excited and then rolling on her back so I could rub her belly. Of course, she needed help uprighting herself again, but after that she followed me from room to room as I changed clothes, did some washing up, etc. Now if I could just train her to always poop out on the terrace like she did this morning…

Wait, brekkie on the terrace? So you eat your laptop for breakfast? I mean, where is the food I am so obsessive as to associate with the word breakfast?
No, seriously, the place looks wonderful and I wish I was there walking on the beach and rubbing Mini’s belly.

A shrewd eye, hmh. The photo was taken before I brought out the digestive biscuits and juice. I do love sitting out there first thing in the morning.
Nog phoned awhile ago. Apparently the HEAT in Sevilla continues, so I’m lucky to be here with the sea breeze … and air conditioning!

Wish I was there. The apartment’s lonely without you.
And did I mention it’s really HOT here?

Have you walked into the village yet?

I went there this morning, alejna. After totally fucking up my back again yesterday it took a lot longer than half an hour. But I got there eventually and found a nice place to sit outside and enjoy a cold beer and look out on the beach.
Then I strolled (well, kind of shuffled) through the village and found a fantastic place to have lunch. Twittered all my lunch pics. And of course I then had to walk all the way home again. By this time my back had pretty much had it and I had to really take baby steps most of the way, but I was quite proud that I still made my way over to the beach to bathe my feet before heading home and falling into bed.
I reckon village trips will not be happening daily. I mostly needed a pharmacy to get bandages for my feet and more gauze to clean Mini’s eyes. Everything else I can find closer to home. But if the back is feeling better tomorrow then I may change my mind.
