Yeah, surprisingly sophisticated dishes, especially at the chiringuito (beach bar) that Nog & I went to yesterday (hover to see which are the “sueños” pics). I’m used to beach bars slapping some sardines on the barbeque with a few green peppers and that was it. What can I say? Been awhile since I’ve travelled to the Cádiz coast.
I think my absolute favourite had to be the deceptively simple looking tuna belly from Ramón PiPi. Words fail me, but it was simply divine.
I’m with sledpress. I want the spinach salad. After that I’d like some of that goat cheese. Then I want the tuna belly.
When I first saw that array I thought “You didn’t eat all those at once!?” Then I started sliding my cursor over them and saw they were from different taparias. So I would think that there were different outings. And more than one person, since nog is saying how good it was.
Man, I wish there was just ONE good place to eat in this town, other than my own kitchen.
Your last comment made me laugh. It’s not the carbs that’ll getcha, it’s the total calories.
You also want those marinated carrots, Sled. They are so simple to make yet soooo delicious. The baked goat cheese with caramalised onions was pretty darn good too.
And lest people think I was making a big pig of myself out here during the past ten days – *waves to hmh!* – most of these pics come from meals I had with Paloma and Nog. The four pics from Los Sueños are from yesterday’s lunch alone, which happened quite by accident. Nog & I started taking a walk along the beach and ended up in the village. So coming back we stopped into the first beach bar near the apartment for a quick cold beer, checked out the menu, and decided to stay there for lunch. And it was amazing. We also had the Ramon PiPi lunch together (tuna belly!) and the dinner at Tango.
As for low carb, that’s just the way I am trying to eat these days as I think it will work better with my metabolism. I know it’s also important to take calories into account, but I really have been craving more protein than carbs lately and it feels “lighter” eating that way. But I won’t really get into a serious low carb diet until I get home again.
Anyhoo … just waiting for Agustín to show up. At least I’m hoping for a ride home. Paloma seemed to think the family is planning to come straight here from Mexico, continue their holiday and put me on a bus home (!). Which actually makes sense, except I’d much rather have a ride home…
Az, once again you leave me with my mouth watering.
You’d be amazed how much absolutely awesome food fits nicely within a l/c diet…my family is always stunned that I don’t make special requests at family dinners or restaurants and haven’t for the last 7+ years. I completely get the craving protein part, and the feeling that it’s a lighter way of eating.
Now, for the techie/geek question…how do you get such lovely, mouthwatering shots? I’m ready to upgrade my camera; what are you using?
I know what you mean, Gaelen. It really doesn’t make eating at restaurants or at dinner parties awkward to mostly eat the protein foods. And it’s sure going to simplify cooking at home. Especially as Susan left me one of those long flat electric grills. I can do a whack of protein foods on one side of the grill and a whack of veg on the other. Get a small repetoire of light dipping sauces and bob’s yer uncle.
My camera is one I bought with Nog about a year and a half ago. It’s okay as a snapshot camera, but to take really good food shots I’d have to invest in something more serious. My “technique” is to take at least half a dozen pics of each dish and hope that one of them turns out. Because the camera is so small, thin and light it’s very easy to get blurry photos. So I wouldn’t actually recommend this camera for anything other than something easy to carry around for quick snapshots.
Someone I know recently bought a camera that actually has a setting on it for food shots! I’ll have ot find out what kind it is.
Oh and … darn! Turns out Agustín & family aren’t going to get here until about 9pm. He said not to worry because Agustín Jr will want to pick up his girlfriend in Cádiz and head back to Seville, but that means I won’t get back home until after 1am … so I am going to pack up now and catch the 8.15 bus. Too bad I didn’t know this earlier or I would have packed up after lunch and caught the 5.00 bus – and would’ve been half-way home by now! But never mind … Nog is going to meet me at the bus station in Sevilla at 11.00 and THEN I GET TO GO HOME AND SNIBBLE CATS!!!
Well, I shouldn’t complain. Dragonprincess fed me oven baked sliced carrots and beet roots with cheese and a side salad with broccoli, tomatoes and haricots verts when I came home from work today.
It’s the bus ride from hell, I’m afraid. Got stuck in traffic … something to do with the Virgin of the Olives. Don’t ask. So, am running late, but not as late as if I’d waited for a ride. Should be in Sevilla in about half an hour. Yay! 🙂
That was a rather fine pizza with prosciutto, gorgonzola & mushrooms. I took half of it home and the next day made “instant calzone” with it on the flat toaster grill thingy at Agustín’s.
I can personally vouch for a lot of those being really yummy. Enjoyed my short weekend break, but am now back home, waiting for the plumber.

As usual, I checked your blog before I have opened my fridge which has the usual “stuff” in it…. I should know better.
I do love tomato/mozza salad and make it at every opportunity. It is light, cold, and delicious!

That’s my problem… HA!
Re: Snibbling. I tried to “cuddle” with Benjamin yesterday and it went quite well if you disregard the struggling and yowling…
(and, no, that was him struggling and yowling)

BTW… I had a strange dream which involved cats… It wasn’t very pleasant and I made sure to pet Benjamin extra well this morning.

Much yummier than my usual yoghurt and muesli.

Mmmm….so tasty-looking. The presentation on so many of these is very appealing as well.
Sorry to hear you’re not getting a quick and easy ride home! Here’s hoping things pick up and you get home to snibble pronto.
